Job Summary: The MTSS Instructional Coach works under the direction of the Director of Instructional Services and is assigned to support one elementary school in actualizing the district’s mission, vision, and values through the continuous improvement process. The MTSS Instructional Coach provides knowledge, expertise, guidance, and support to building-level administrators, counselors, teachers, and paraprofessional staff through coaching, professional learning, collaboration, and resource connection through the districtwide integration of the MTSS framework. The essential components of the MTSS framework guide the work of the MTSS Instructional Coach:

  • Team-based leadership
  • Tiered delivery system
  • Selection and implementation of evidence-based instruction, interventions, and supports
  • Comprehensive screening and assessment system
  • Continuous data-based decision making

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Education
  • Current Michigan teaching certification
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the field of public school education
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide job-embedded coaching support by planning, modeling, co-teaching, and reflecting with teachers, principals, counselors, professional learning communities (PLCs), and support staff in implementing MTSS.
  • Coordinate Tier 2 intervention and support.
  • Continuously work to support the whole-child (academic, behavior, and social-emotional).
  • Plan collaboratively with the Instruction office team, fellow MTSS instructional coaches, school and district leaders, and leadership teams, as well as developing and implementing professional learning through multiple modalities to improve and enhance instruction and curriculum alignment across all grade levels.
  • Provide job-embedded professional learning and participates in Data Team meetings to support teachers, principals, and counselors in analyzing all forms of student data (e.g., academic, demographic, behavior, etc.) to inform Tier 1, 2, and 3 instruction.
  • Collaborate with teachers, principals, and counselors in planning for, collecting, and analyzing process data (e.g., implementation fidelity checks, protocols, procedures, etc.) to support the school’s continuous improvement process.
  • Observe and guide general education teachers, resource room teachers, and support staff to ensure implementation fidelity across Tier 1, 2, and 3 instruction.
  • Model evidence-based practices for teachers and paraprofessionals as part of ongoing and embedded professional learning initiatives with staff as active participants.
  • Support individual teachers, collaborative teams, support staff, and counselors in identifying student needs, selecting and implementing skill-specific evidence-based strategies, and progress monitoring students designated for Tier 2 and 3 support.
  • Model the creation and/or implementation of intervention plans using appropriate strategies, assessments, and resources.
  • Support the training of teachers or instructional support staff in implementing district curricular resources
  • Collaborate to create, connect, and maintain content for district platforms to provide resources for teachers and instructional support staff in Tier 1, 2, and 3 instruction and social-emotional learning (SEL) competencies.
  • Support the development and continued refinement of common assessments and teacher teams' analysis and use of the results within the formative assessment process.
  • Support PLCs and the PLC process within the FHPS Inquiry Cycle for Collaborative Teams.
  • Serve as a member of the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT)
  • Assist with the school Child Study Process teams.
  • Coordinate literacy night to promote partnerships with families and staff.
  • Support individual and team confidentiality to maintain a safe environment for honest conversation.
  • Speak with a consistent voice when delivering messages from the Director of Instructional Services and FHPS Instruction Office.
  • Attend professional learning and/or development opportunities as requested or approved by the Director of Instructional Services.
  • Follow all Board of Education approved policies and all administrative guidelines.
  • Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned within the parameters of the negotiated contract, Board of Education policies, state statutes, and administrative rules.

  • including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds
  • Ability to make appropriate data-based decisions

  • Excellent oral, written, and public speaking communication skills

  • High level of interpersonal skills
  • Ability to keep up-to-date technically and apply new knowledge. Includes adapting to and
  • mastering new system applications and processes as implemented by the district or department
  • Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, District policies, building and department procedures
  • Demonstrated cultural humility and willingness to engage in learning toward cultural competence

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, hear (in a quiet or noisy environment). The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust/focus. Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate. Work may be performed indoors and/or outdoors. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being and work output of students.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to compare, analyze, communicate both orally and in writing, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile and negotiate.
