The purpose of this classification is to answer non-emergency calls for service and to coordinate responses and dispatch resources as appropriate for assigned department.
Job Summary
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of certain duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Responds promptly to incoming calls regarding emergencies and non-emergency situations. Evaluates the urgency and nature of each situation, efficiently dispatching the appropriate personnel or units to respond. Maintains clear communication with dispatched personnel to ensure a coordinated and effective response.
Utilizes computers, telephones, cellular devices, and two-way radios to monitor field situations continuously. Stays alert for incoming reports, updates, and communications from field personnel, ensuring that all information is received and processed in a timely manner.
Assesses situations requiring immediate attention or additional resources and notify supervisors accordingly. Provides brief, clear summaries of the situation to facilitate strategic decision-making and prompt action.
Carries out a variety of administrative tasks as assigned, including data entry, record maintaining, and document preparation. Supports team operations by ensuring that all clerical work is completed efficiently and accurately.
Acts as a liaison between the public, other agencies, and the department, providing information related to services, regulations, and procedures. Responds to inquiries and requests for information in a knowledgeable and professional manner.
Facilitates positive interactions with members of the public by promptly addressing inquiries and service requests in a courteous manner. Ensures the creation of a welcoming environment by effectively resolving complaints and directing individuals to the appropriate resources.
Prepare a variety of documents, including general correspondence, memos, and official reports. Ensures that all materials are accurately typed, formatted, and free from errors before distributing or filing.
Serves as the first point of contact for visitors and callers, answering the phone and interfacing with the public. Provides comprehensive information regarding the department’s policies, procedures, and available services.
Issues, receives, and processes various applications and permits. Efficiently handles fee payments, maintaining accurate records of cash transactions, and ensuring the security of financial data.
Engages in a wide range of clerical tasks, such as filing, recording information on records, and maintaining organized documentation. Ensures precision and confidentiality in the management of sensitive information.
Gathers operational information and accurately input data into computer systems. Analyzes data trends and provide relevant insights to support operational decisions.
Utilizes standard office equipment, including computers and printers, and follow established office procedures. Stay current with modern office software programs relevant to job functions.
Receives, sorts, and distributes mail. Ensures that important communications are prioritized and redirected appropriately.
Interacts with the public, demonstrating strong conflict resolution skills to defuse potentially volatile situations. Utilizes effective communication and empathy to address concerns and foster cooperative relationships.
Additional Functions
Performs general tasks, which may include delivering documentation to/from other offices.
Provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Performs other related duties as required.
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by one (1) year previous experience and/or training involving office administration, customer service, personal computer operations, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Basic Life & AD&D Insurance
The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners recognizes the importance of basic life insurance for all of its employees. The Board provides term life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) protection for each full-time employee. This is a County-paid benefit.
Disability Insurance – Short Term and Long Term
100% paid by Forsyth County. Eligibility begins date of hire.
Short Term Disability – 60% of weekly earnings to a maximum of $1,000.00 a week. Eligibility begins 14 days after an accident or sickness and has a benefit period of 24 weeks.
Long Term Disability – 60% of monthly earnings to a maximum of $5,000.00 a month. Eligibility begins at 26 weeks to coordinate with the end of Short Term benefits and continues 24 months (Own Occupation).
Additional Life Insurance And AD&D
Rates vary based on amount of coverage selected. Additional life insurance may be purchased for employee, spouse, and children.
Retirement Plan (401K)
Fully vested at five years of employment – 20% graduated vesting annually. Eligible to begin contributions immediately upon hire.

Forsyth County matches your contributions, dollar for dollar, up to 5% of your pay. That’s a 100% return on the first 5% of pay you save.
Years One through Five
Forsyth County “seeds” your account with 5% of your pay each year, and matches 100% of what you contribute, up to 5% of your pay.
Years 5 through 10
The County continues its automatic “seed” contribution of 5% of pay, matches up to the first 5% of pay that you contribute, then adds a 50% match up to the next 5%.
After 10 Years of Service
You continue to receive a 100% County match on the first 5% of pay you contribute, and 50% on the next 5% of pay you save. But now, the automatic contribution the County makes to “seed” your account each year increases to 7.5% of your pay.
