Job Summary:
The compassionate RN/LPN/NP goes the extra mile, putting patients first as they guide individuals battling substance abuse and mental health challenges through their recovery journey. This dynamic role involves conducting thorough health checkups, keeping a close eye on patients, managing medications, and collaborating with a diverse team to help clients achieve their recovery goals. With a keen eye for detail, the ideal candidate ensures compliance with regulations, follows proven treatment plans, and helps cultivate a safe, therapeutic environment that prioritizes patient well-being and healing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Assessment and Monitoring
- Conduct comprehensive health assessments for new and existing patients, evaluating physical and mental health status.
- Monitor patients’ progress throughout treatment, noting changes in physical or mental health and reporting to the nursing, medical, operations and clinical team as needed.
- Conduct regular checks on clients in detox, residential, PHP and IOP or withdrawal management programs to ensure their safety and comfort.
- Medication Administration and Management
- Administer prescribed medications in accordance with treatment plans, accurately documenting all doses and patient responses.
- Manage and monitor medication-assisted treatment (MAT), following established protocols for clients receiving medications for opioid or alcohol dependence.
- Maintain accurate records of all medications, ensuring compliance with federal and state guidelines for controlled substances.
- Crisis Intervention and Emergency Care
- Respond promptly to medical and behavioral health emergencies, providing immediate support and stabilizing patients as necessary.
- Utilize crisis intervention skills to de-escalate situations, working with clinical staff to maintain a safe environment for all patients.
- Supportive to the company’s vision and approach of longer lengths of stay and positive outcomes for lasting recovery
- Perform emergency procedures such as CPR or first aid as required and coordinate transfers to emergency facilities if needed.
- Collaboration with Multidisciplinary Team
- Work closely with physicians, nurse practitioners, therapists, and other staff to develop, implement, and adjust individualized care plans.
- Participate in treatment team meetings to discuss patient progress, challenges, and needs, providing input based on clinical observations.
- Communicate patient updates and relevant medical information to the clinical team, maintaining a cohesive approach to care.
- Patient Education and Support
- Educate patients and their families on treatment protocols, health management, and the importance of medication adherence.
- Provide supportive counseling, assisting patients in managing symptoms, understanding the recovery process, and building healthy habits.
- Foster a therapeutic, non-judgmental environment that promotes trust and encourages patients to engage in their treatment plans.
- Compliance and Documentation
- Maintain thorough, accurate documentation in the electronic health record (EHR), including assessments, medication administration, and patient interactions.
- Ensure all nursing activities comply with state and federal regulations, accreditation standards, and internal policies.
- Participate in audits, quality assurance initiatives, and compliance checks to uphold safety and quality of care standards.
- Health and Safety Management
- Ensure a clean, safe, and therapeutic environment by adhering to infection control protocols and safety policies.
- Monitor facility conditions to identify any potential hazards and report concerns to appropriate staff.
- Educate patients and staff on health and safety best practices, including infection prevention and self-care.
Qualifications:
- Current RN/LPN/NP license in the state of Virginia.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (ASN or BSN) preferred.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of nursing experience; experience in behavioral health, substance abuse treatment, residential or detox preferred.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
- Knowledge of medication-assisted treatment (MAT) and addiction treatment protocols is a plus.
