Position Overview
The Lead Mechanical Design Engineer will develop innovative, cost-effective solutions for semiconductor tool pedestals using new materials and Design for Manufacturability principles. This role involves leading complex design projects, mentoring team members, and partnering cross-functionally to ensure designs meet production, quality, and customer standards. Success requires strong technical expertise, project management skills, and a passion for driving continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop robust, cost-effective mechanical and structural solutions for semiconductor tool pedestals that meet both tool manufacturer specifications and facility requirements.
- Develop design solutions that maximize space efficiency and incorporate innovative materials and coatings to meet customer specifications.
- Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles to reduce costs and improve production efficiency.
- Develop comprehensive design standards to establish a cohesive approach to model and drawing creating.
- Utilize AutoCAD and Inventor software to create detailed models and drawings and perform FEA analysis for mechanical assemblies.
- Establish and maintain design standards to support consistency and efficiency across the team.
- Design and develop machining and fabrication fixtures for in-house manufacturing and key suppliers.
- Support and lead cross-functional projects focused on streamlining the design and release process.
- Partner with cross-functional teams, including Project Management, Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Installation, to resolve design-related challenges.
- Provide mentorship and training to team members.
- Identify and drive departmental improvement efforts to streamline design and release processes.
- Ensure project deliverables are completed on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
- Document and communicate project status, challenges, and resolutions to stakeholders effectively.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5-10 years of mechanical design experience, with 3-5 years in a senior or lead role.
- Proficient in Autodesk AutoCAD and Inventor (2018 or newer).
- Experience designing for a metal fabrication and machine shop with knowledge of cutting, grinding, forming, welding and milling.
- Experience with change management systems, standards, CAD systems, and file structures.
- Strong knowledge of both metric and U.S. standard units.
- Experience in the semiconductor industry is a plus.
Work Environment:
- Fast-paced, collaborative, and dynamic office environment.
- This role is 100% on-site, with occasional remote work permitted ONLY as needed.
- This role operates primarily in an office environment situated with the engineering and design team.
- Regular interaction with the manufacturing floor requires adherence to PPE protocols.
- Occasional visits to fabrication sites may be required with appropriate training and safety measures.
