The duties described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Duties consist of but are not limited to construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, conforming to local building codes, by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Other duties may be assigned.
· Studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required such as lumber or fiberboard, and dimensions of structure of fixture to be fabricated.
· Planning and initiating projects, cost estimates and purchasing of materials, this will include renovation and new projects.
· Selects specified type of lumber or other materials.
· Prepares layout.
· Marks cutting and assembly lines on materials.
· Shapes materials to prescribed measurements.
· Assembles cut, shaped materials, and fastens them together with nails, dowel pins, or glue.
· Verifies trueness of structure with plumb bob and carpenter’s level.
· Erects framework for structure and lays subflooring.
· Builds stairs, lays out, and installs partitions and cabinetwork.
· Covers subfloor with building paper to keep out moisture and lays hardwood, parquet, and wood-strip- block floors by nailing floors to subfloor or cementing them to mastic or asphalt base.
· Applies shock-absorbing, sound-deadening, and decorative paneling to ceilings and walls.
· Fits and installs prefabricated window frames, doors, doorframes, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, and finish hardware, such as lock, letter drops, and kick plates.
· Constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete.
· Erects scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level.
· Welds metal parts to steel structural members.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to read and understand blueprints, sketches, and building plans and be knowledgeable of the materials needed and required. Knowledge and ability of erecting framework for new building structures. Knowledge and ability of the processes for welding, concrete mixing and forming. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organizations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a high school diploma from an accredited high school and five (5) years of progressive experience in the trades of electrical, HVAC, and carpentry. Trade certification can substitute on a year for year basis of the required experience of each trade field. Possession of a valid State of Florida Driver’s License with a favorable driving record.
