Gateways Hospital and Mental Health Center, located in Los Angeles, is a non-profit organization that provides an array of comprehensive mental health services for Children, Adolescents, Transitional Aged Youth, and Adults suffering from mental illness in the Greater Los Angeles area. The organization consists of a standalone fifty-five (55) )-bed hospital and six outlying outpatient facilities that have anywhere from fourteen (14) beds to one hundred and thirty-four (134) beds. The organization has approximately four hundred (400) employees.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Lead Pt. Acct. Rep. is responsible for leading a department staff of 2-3 employees. This position is responsible for all patient billing from admission until discharge including follow-up. In addition, the Lead Rep. will train department staff in the use of contract billing via the IS system. Train and monitor staff as needed. This position will also be responsible for the cashiering duties.
ESSENTIALS DUTIES
- Responsible for all inpatient, outpatient billing and follow up: Contract, Medicare and Insurance billing after discharge
- Coordinate and periodically reviews MIS county programs IP, OP ADOL.
- Attend IS conferences/seminars to stay informed of existing and new policies for HIPPA compliance.
- Leads department in job specific duties.
- Ensure the distribution of monthly reports.
- Compose correspondence related to patient billing.
- Maintains an objective, professional relationship with patients and staff at all times.
- Inform employees of Hospital activities and administrative policies by means of handouts, memos, and bulletins as needed.
Qualifications
EDUCATION & CERTIFICATES
Minimum Education Required:
- High school Graduate or G.E.D.
Desired Education:
- Business and computer coursework.
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience Required:
- One year healthcare billing experience
- Two years’ experience in hospital billing, data input, client financial interviews. Insurance Company contacts.
- Some prior experience working for a hospital or other service facility.
- Basic knowledge of Medicare – Medi-Cal billing requirements.
Desired Experience:
- Strong Hospital and or doctor’s office billing.
REQUIREMENTS
- Must pass Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), and Community Care Licensing (CCL) background clearance.
- Valid California Driver’s license.
- TB clearance.
- Fire and Safety Training*.
- Crisis Prevention Institute Training (CPI)**
* Note: If indicated certifications/licenses are lacking, they must be obtained within 180 days of hire.
**Training needs to be completed within 30 days from the date of hire on a designated date provided by onboarding. Staff need to be certified at the commensurate level for their role to perform their job duties (staff will be taken off the schedule if certification is not achieved).
