The Switching Operator is responsible for the movement and spotting of railcars in a safe and timely manner according to operational needs
Other work-related tasks as assigned.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
- Work with Repair Center Manager, ME, and other key roles to efficiently move, switch, and spot cars in the plant and/or yard. Work with production to create and execute the plan for movement and placement of cars in the yard and work centers.
- Maintain switching equipment per preventative maintenance schedules.
- Assist with plant railcar repair work or other maintenance when necessary.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion (or ability to complete shortly after hiring) of GATX Switching certification.
- Ability to read, access, and interpret switch diagrams, Excel spreadsheets, and company policies.
- Ability to work well with others in a positive manner.
- Must be able to walk for extended periods of time (possibly over 8 hours per day)
- Must be able to stoop for extended periods and routinely move from kneeling to standing positions Must be able to perform overhead work for extended periods
- Must be able to lift (vertically) up to 85 pounds from the ground surface
- Must be able to push / pull (horizontally) up to 140 pounds
- Must be able to climb ladders and perform work at elevated heights
- Must be able to work in extreme temperature environment
