GENERAL SUMMARY
The Unit clerk performs clerical duties of the nursing unit; facilitates good communications through proper handling of information, inquiries and requests given or received by phone or in person; maintains a neat and well organized documentation system, and assists with certain areas of employee care as directed.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collects information regarding unit needs and maintenance of supplies and equipment.
- Provide education to staff on employee swabbing and administration
- Proficiently provide data entry for vaccinations, logs, and other unit specific needs, in a timely and concise manner.
- N95 Mask Fit training for staff with the ability to fit them upon hire and annually as defined per job description
- Data entry into ICARES and Agility, which are unit specific databases
- Implements appropriate measures to meet the employee learning needs.
- Prepare new hire folders and charts
- Updates all employee demographics with changes monthly
- Performs documentation duties in the employee record which is timely, accurate and concise.
- Functions with an awareness and application of safety issues as identified within the institution.
- Answers calls and emails timely, giving detail and information for further follow up, including department manager
- Performs efficiently in emergency situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events.
- Demonstrates sound knowledge base and actions in the care and decision making for care and decision making for designated patient populations.
- Demonstrates an awareness of self-responsibility and accountability for own practice.
- Participates actively in staff development activities for unit.
- Demonstrates self-directed learning and participation of continuing education to meet own development needs.
- Seeks validation of knowledge base and skill level and assertively seeks guidance in areas of question.
- Demonstrates awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and unit functions and strives to manage situations on a reduced risk manner.
- Participates in development and attainment of unit and Division of Nursing goals.
- Participates in unit and Division of Nursing Performance Improvement.
- Demonstrates effective communication methods and skills, using lines of authority appropriately.
- Uses effective working relationships with all health care team members, patients/SO and hospital staff.
- Remains flexible in staffing patterns
- Perform Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Emotional stability conductive to dealing with a high stress level for 8-12 hours at a time
2. Fast paced physical activity, rapidly changing patient conditions.
3. Physical strength to perform the following lifting tasks:
- Floor to waist - 20 pounds
- 14” to waist - 30 pounds
- Waist to shoulder - 20 pounds
- Shoulder to overhead - 10 pounds
- Carry 20 pounds for 30 feet
- Push 20 pounds/force for 15 feet
- Pull 20 pounds/force for 15 feet
4. Emotional demands of maintaining effective working relationships with peers, managers, physicians, and other health care workers.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Reports to the Director of Employee Health Services
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- BLS on hire or within 3 months
- Efficient with data processing with previous proficient computer skills
INFECTION EXPOSURE RISK LEVEL
Category 1 – Maximal Risk - This job usually involves contact with patient or patient specimens. Exposure to blood, body fluids and tissue is possible. The Hepatitis B vaccine shall be made available.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Works in areas where there are few discomforts due to dust, dirt, noise and the like.
- Works with employees and may be exposed to contagious diseases or infectious materials, but potential for personal harm and injury is limited when proper safety and health precautions and equipment are used.
- Time constraints are a source of pressure due to required turn-around time monitoring.
Salary : $17 - $25
