Position Type: Full-Time Employee  

Reports To: Senior Director of Learning Services 

Work Hours: Monday– Friday, 40 hours/week, additional hours as required

WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?  

Are you a creative thinker, ready to use out-of-the-box approaches to create transformational learning experiences? Do you know how to use online and in person training to build concrete skills – not just theoretical understanding?  

 

GWC is looking for an innovative educator, with proven experience in designing applied online and in person training. This team member would work collaboratively with subject matter experts from multiple organizations to build training that will support the professionalization of the water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) sector in lower- and middle-income countries. Their primary focus will be on asynchronous online training development, with some opportunities to build in-person and hybrid training.  

 

The ideal candidate will have experience in technical and vocational training design in WASH or related subjects, and experience in leveraging technology to accelerate the pace of design and the effectiveness of training delivery. They will know how to build highly interactive online training experiences, that allow learners to practice technical and soft skills. The individual will be experienced in managing instructional design projects from the assessment and design phase through to the build phase and managing subject matter experts to effectively participate in the process.  In addition, they will be a gifted trainer, with experience working in cross-cultural contexts, and designing and delivering training for a range of audiences, including learners from lower- and middle-income countries.  

 

Some international travel may be required as part of this job. International trips 1- 3 times annually of 1-2 weeks, and 1-3 domestic trips of 3 - 5 days duration are possible.  

  

This position is remote.  

  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES   

  • Design online and in person training that focuses on skill acquisition for multiple roles across the WASH sector.  
  • Work with subject matter experts to design training.  
  • Manage all phases of the instructional design process including assessment, design, development, piloting, and evaluation.  
  • Design approaches to post-training support 
  • Work simultaneously on multiple projects and ensure work is done with excellence within an agreed upon scope, schedule, and budget.   
  • Maintain effective communication with subject matter experts, partner organizations, and team members across multiple countries and time zones.   
  • Model GWC’s core values of Love, Excellence, and Integrity and work with colleagues, partners, prospects, vendors, and the public in a spirit of humility and generosity. 
  • Work within cross-cultural environments with an intentional focus on overcoming stereotypes and language barriers.    
  • Represent GWC’s brand to external audiences including potential funders, partners, subject matter experts, training partners, and training customers.   


QUALIFICATIONS   

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, instructional design, curriculum design or equivalent experience  
  • Second degree or practical experience in engineering or science preferred.  
  • 5 years experience in training, design and development
  • Proven experience in designing interactive skill-based online training 
  • Experience designing training for participants in low- and middle-income countries and learner for whom English, French or Spanish is not a primary language.   
  • Cross-cultural communication skills 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills  
  • Proficient in Articulate 360 (Storyline and Rise), MS Suite, and Google Suite
  • Experience with other e-learning authoring tools or video and graphic design software preferred.
  • Experience working with a learning management system

  • Fluent written and spoken French or Spanish is an asset

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

    • Ability to safely lift a minimum of 35 lbs.   
    • Ability to sit for extended periods, stand, walk, type, carry, kneel, ascend, and descend stairs, and bend.    
    • Ability to work primarily indoors  
    • Ability to work outside the normal Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm workweek if needed.   
    • Ability to travel as needed.
