Background
Good Samaritan Community Services is a 501(c) 3 organization that provides comprehensive services to more than 3,500 individuals and 1,200 families in various locations in South and West Texas. Since 1939 we have focused on serving the social, educational, emotional, and health equity needs of our neighbors.
Our mission is to actively serve as a catalyst for change, supporting youth, individuals, and families by providing excellent community services to overcome economic poverty. We do this through a continuum of services designed to stabilize families, establish nurturing relationships, and foster self-sufficiency in those we serve through the programs and supports we provided via our Family Services and Youth and Teen Departments.
Good Samaritan began as a downtown mission of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in 1939 and was established as an institution of the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas in 1951 under the leadership of Bishop Everett Jones.
Position Summary
Custodial Maintenance I is responsible for keeping Good Samaritan’s campus clean and safe by following daily cleaning instructions under the supervision of the Administrative Coordinator. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, maintaining Good Samaritan’s office areas, bathrooms, entrances, kitchen, storage area, operating cleaning equipment, and maintaining cleaning supplies. Employee is also responsible for day-to-daymaintenance and repairs to Good Samaritan’s campus buildings and grounds. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, maintaining Good Samaritan’s curb appeal, basic landscaping, interior and exterior repairs to fixtures and painting of offices and classrooms, and sprinkler systems and lawn machinery repairs.
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Familiarity with function, safe use, and basic maintenance of a variety of tools and maintenance equipment.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Two years of custodial, grounds and/or landscaping experience preferred.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred, according to business needs and requirements.
Essential Duties & Functions
- Demonstrate adherence to the CORE values of Good Samaritan Community Services.
- Insuring all indoor and outdoor spaces are properly maintained throughout the day according to the cleaning schedule’ which includes but is not limited to sweeping, mopping, disposing of trash and making sure consumables such as toilet paper, towels, soap are filled.
- Safe use of basic hand tools and maintenance equipment such as shampoo and waxing machines and lawn equipment, including but not limited to rakes, brooms, shovels, hand and pole saws, hand pruners, loppers, hedge shears, walk behind spreaders, and liquid product sprayers to ensure Good Samaritan indoor and outdoor spaces are well-maintained.
- Install and remove plant material, trees and shrubs, mulch, move and rake dirt/soil, sweep hard surfaces and other basic outdoor landscaping duties.
- Paint and repair walls and other interior spaces as needed or by following pre-determined schedule.
- Wash company vehicles, chairs, tables, and windows as needed.
- Complete all other duties as assigned by the Administrative Coordinator.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Manages volunteers as assigned by the Administrative Coordinator.
Work Environment
This job requires the ability to work indoors and outdoors. There can be occasional or regular exposure to wet or humid non-weather conditions and hot weather conditions.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, one must be able to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, talk, hear, type, and occasionally lift between 25-50 pounds of supplies, machinery, greenery, and other items. These physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are typically from Monday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM with occasional weekend hours. Hours may change based on agency needs.
Travel
Local travel is required.
Benefits and Compensation
The salary range is $13.50 to $14.00/hr. A competitive compensation package will be offered for this position based upon the successful candidate’s education, skills, and experience.
