What are the responsibilities and job description for the Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manager position at Gorton's?
What you’ll do:
Responsible for food safety and product quality systems and provide leadership on new quality initiatives. Provide technical support and guidance regarding quality, product safety, regulatory, and auditing. Promote quality achievement and performance improvement throughout the organization by assuring consistent quality of production through the development and enforcement of good manufacturing practices (GMP).
- Coordinate and implement plant food safety, quality, and regulatory programs in collaboration with corporate FSQA.
- Maintain required documentation for all products according to specifications and plant systems.
- Provide continuous training on Food Safety, Quality, and Regulatory programs, policies, and procedures.
- Manage all auditing programs and certifications related to food safety, including internal and external audits, GMP audits, GFSI, BRCGS, FDA, USDC, and Kosher.
- Develop and maintain policies, procedures, training materials, and documentation for all FSQA programs.
- Continuously oversee programs, systems, policies, and procedures to improve effectiveness and efficiencies in promoting product safety.
- Lead and manage the plant FSQA team of supervisors and technicians.
- Ensure proper handling and shipping of samples for analysis to corporate and third-party labs.
- Support daily pre-op/start-up equipment and facility inspections, providing clear feedback for continuous improvement.
- Act as plant’s Seafood HACCP coordinator.
- Manage non-conforming products, holds, and positive release of materials and finished products.
- Handle foreign material logs, CAPAs, and communications with Supply Chain and Corporate FSQA as needed.
- Investigate consumer complaints in conjunction with Corporate FSQA and maintain customer requirements.
- Provide quarterly dashboard metrics.
- Ensure all customer specifications are being satisfied along with all quarterly calibrations
What you’ll need:
- 3 to 5 years of Food Manufacturing experience as a Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manager
- Bachelor’s Degree is preferred: Food Manufacturing, Food Science, Microbiology, Biology or Chemistry
- Seafood HACCP certification preferred
- Ability to distinguish between acceptable and not acceptable standards
- Leadership, troubleshooting, presentation, and team building skills
- Ability to deal effectively with all levels of the organization
