Job Title: Interactive Educators Reports to: Interactive Education Lead
Overview: As an informal educator you will lead educational programs, activities, tours, and shows throughout the Museum, reaching a diverse audience of children, parents, teachers, and staff. This position is part-time and requires flexibility for special events or outreaches. Must be available Monday - Friday 10:00 – 4:30 pm
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provides classroom workshops/programs/shows to support STREAM in Pinellas County and visitor engagement for youth and adult groups in an educational museum.
- Responsible for conducting gallery shows 3 times daily
- Assist school teams (teachers, students, principals, parents, etc.) via virtual or in-person visits, phone, and email with implementing STREAM practices at schools
- Track school contacts and prepare detailed written communication following school visits
- Track numbers and information for grant data entry
- Engage visitors, including school-age and adult groups, onsite at the museum
- Prepare Sunshine state standard lessons support and other written materials, as well as building programs and create interactive education materials for both in-person and virtual learning environments (social media, website, etc.)
- Develop or revise creative programs curriculum and materials
- Conduct outreach phone calls and visits with community members/ partners
- Be a part of team meetings and staff trainings
This position requires a flexible schedule with occasional early start times and infrequent evening engagements. Some Saturdays may be requested.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must have valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle, must be able to drive to on and off site locations, clean driving record, and able to complete company van driving training
- Great classroom management skills including voice projection and can work under pressure
- Able to adapt teaching skills to various audiences both in-person and virtual
- Ability to work with diverse students and adults in a respectful, creative, dynamic, diverse, and positive way
- Can organize and self-manage
- Must be able to lead projects, be a part of a team
- Ability to carry 40 lbs. of materials and props
- Optimistic team attitude with flexibility to accommodate last min programs and schedule changes, supportive attitude
- Strong communication skills
- Basic knowledge of STREAM
- Strong desire to educate and work with grades Pre-K – 5th Grade
Minimum Qualifications / Experience:
High School Diploma or Equivalent and Minimum of three years’ experience working with young people ages 0-10 in a classroom setting or through informal educational settings.
Relevant volunteer experience may substitute for work experience. Preferred two years college in education, museum science, or STREAM
Special Work Requirements:
Must be available to work during school hours with possible early and late start times between
9AM-6PM (and infrequent weekends)
