The full performance level class works under general direction & requires considerable knowledge of processing building permit applications, plan submittal and report requirements, inspection scheduling, issuing permits, calculating and collecting fees, assembling completed/approved construction drawings, maintaining related documentation and the ability to exercise sound independent judgment within established guidelines.Normal Working Hours: Monday - Friday; 7:30am - 4:00pm or 4:30pm depending on lunch duration. Alternative work schedule may be offered.Posted until filled.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Accepts, analyzes and processes a variety of permit applications and specialized documents (e.g., plan review response transmittals, blueprints, special inspection reports); determines the accurate construction category and classification that aligns with the proper permit code and fee. Provides information regarding building permitting and plan review processes and procedures to developers, contractors, property owners and the public at a service counter, over the telephone and via email; and answers routine and non-routine questions related to services (e.g., dates & times of inspection, permit fees & applications). Prepares & issues residential & commercial building permits; prepares Certificates of Occupancy for residential homes and commercial buildings; ascertains if all final inspections have been completed & appropriate permits issued. Accepts payment and processes permit fees (e.g., cash, check, or credit card). Reviews & calculates building, heating & electrical permits for processing; ensures correct permit charges have been applied; determines whether each permit is for a residential or commercial building. Enters permit data into computer for accurate record keeping and easy retrieval.Prepares plan-approval letters and adjudication orders; creation and processing of legal documents (e.g., Adjudication Orders, Correction Letters, Plan Approvals and Stop Work Orders) completes routine and non-routine correspondence; accepts, reviews and processes a variety of forms and documents to ensure they are complete and accurate; gathers data to complete forms; maintains a variety of databases and/or spreadsheets; provides and performs a variety of routine and non-routine administrative support tasks.Schedules inspection requests from homeowners, contractors, subcontractors and developers (e.g., via phone, fax, email or in person). Coordinates with Inspection Supervisor, local fire, health, plumbing, and zoning departments for proper inspection times and dates. Coordinates and forwards gas and electric releases from inspector to utilities departments. Prepares and processes daily receipts and transfers pay-in to Treasurer’s Office. Processes, enters data & issues Final Certificate of Occupancy.Processes daily and outgoing mail of permits and plans. Creates & maintains filing system for new building permits; purges old files & relocates to storage; prepares correspondence to request information from residential contractors before issuing permits. Assists office employees as needed during employee absences or during periods when workload is heavy.Prepares Geographic Information System (GIS) & Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Floodway maps.Performs others duties of a similar nature or level as assigned.
