JOB TITLE: GAS METER AND INSTRUMENT TECHNICIAN
JOB DESCRIPTION: Under occasional supervision, installs, tests, maintains and/or repairs all gas meters, measuring devices, and regulators used in the operation of the natural gas supply system, and performs related technical work as required. Reports to the Energy Supply Supervisor.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Requires a vocational/technical diploma in any science, technology, electronics, or mathematics (STEM) discipline, supplemented by three years of technical experience in related electronics / electrical work, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must have a valid driver’s license.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
- Maintains, tests, calibrates, disassembles, rebuilds and repairs all industrial, residential and commercial meters.
- Tests mercury electronic instruments’ pressure and temperature transducers; calibrates as necessary.
- Inspects and repairs industrial regulators and maintains commercial regulators; sizes meters and regulators for proper applications.
- Operates or assists in the operation of the gas meter shop.
- Orders parts and supplies related to various types of meters, regulators and electronic instruments.
- Draws rough sketches for the fabrication of meter and regulator stations.
- Performs general maintenance on gas meter stations.
- Works after hours as needed (subject to call out).
- Installs, programs, and maintains remote meter devices (ERT’s) on gas meters.
- Responsible to maintain compliance with Federal Operator Qualification (OQ) courses and exams, as appropriate.
- Performs general grounds keeping duties around gas meter stations.
- Maintains assigned vehicles, tools and equipment.
- Performs all work in accordance with prescribed policies, procedures, codes, regulations and standards of safety and quality.
- Prepares and submits required records, forms and reports.
- Operates a company vehicle, weed eater, computers, calculator, testing instruments, meters, gauges, two-way radio, telephone, electrician’s tools, mechanic’s tools, and various other hand and power tools.
- Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, other department supervisors and employees, City/County personnel, sales representatives, customers, and the general public.
JOB GRADE: Grade 15 ($55,640 – $77,875)
