JOB SUMMARY
A boiler operator is responsible for maintaining the boilers, evaporator, chiller, and pasteurizer line and all auxiliary systems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· Operate steam generated boiler(s) and other steam system equipment and devices.
· Schedule and perform preventative and corrective maintenance on steam generating boilers and other steam system equipment and devices. Duties will also include packaging lines, conveyance systems and bulk handling equipment.
· Operate pneumatically activated valves (automatic and/or manually).
· Operate mechanical valves and safety devices.
· Perform boiler, steam generation system and devices safety procedures and timely inspections, required by the company and state of California compliance regulations and document them accurately.
· To operate and maintain new boiler equipment, for optimum performance and efficiency.
· Perform chemical test for boiler feed water systems.
· Follows and ensures adherence to established Grower Direct Nut Co., local, state, and federal regulations and requirements as well as food safety, sanitation, food production and nutritional guidelines.
· Established and ensures adherence to procedures and standards, which are in agreement with these regulations, requirements and guidelines.
· Operate CMMS work order system.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities are not limited to the above-mentioned and may include assisting other departments with reasonable and related tasks as assigned by management.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physical demands
o Will occasionally sit, climb stairs and ladders, or balance and stoop, kneel crouch or crawl.
o Must use both hands for rapid mental muscular coordination, simultaneously.
o Must be able to reach high and low levels, frequently.
o Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
o Must be able to work in a noisy and hot environment.
o Must be able to work a 12-hour shift.
Work environment
o May work near moving mechanical parts.
o May work around wet or humid conditions, in high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, extreme cold (non-weather), extreme heat (non-weather), risk of electrical shock, and/or risk of vibration.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
1. Knowledge of general mechanical equipment maintenance including basic electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic and steam systems.
2. Able to read and interpret schematics and diagrams (piping and pneumatic systems).
3. Must be willing to work alternate or rotating shifts according to business needs.
4. Knowledge of programmable logic controllers is desirable.
5. Knowledge of pneumatic operated control systems and devices.
6. Knowledge of California Code of Regulations Title 8 (Boiler and Fired Pressure Vessel Safety Orders) desirable.
7. Boiler Operator certification (California) desirable.
8. Organized, methodic, efficient and eager to learn.
9. Safety and performance oriented.
10. Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus.
11. Must have a valid CA driver license without restrictions
