Position Summary
The Capacity Representative will be responsible for coordinating the movement of all shipments within your assigned loads and/or team. The objective is to build strong working relationships with different carriers to ensure customer expectations are consistently met or exceeded. The Capacity Representative needs to work closely with the Account Representatives to understand expectations, monitor profitability and ensure service is being performed by the carrier as expected. This role requires knowledge of the carrier market, market and carrier rates and the ability to work within a team to accomplish the expected results.
· The Capacity Representative will receive requests from within the team to ensure loads are booked on a timely basis and within price constraints.
· You will be assigned loads for which you will be required to source carriers and interact with them to ensure safe and timely deliveries.
Your Day-to-Day Impact
· Communicate performance expectations to the carrier for each load. I.E. pick-up dates & time, delivery date & time, special requirements, etc. (Track & Trace). Build strong working relationships with carriers on assigned loads.
· Identify carrier performance issues, work to resolve those issues with carriers, and escalate events to the management team as needed.
· Perform carrier-specific “needs analysis” to identify potential business opportunities and develop problem solving strategies for successful carrier operations. Negotiate carrier contracts, including rates, accessorial, and payment terms in accordance with Finance, Legal, Senior Management principles.
· Provide Spot quote pricing from Carriers to the team.
· Resolve day-to-day issues that arise in a timely and efficient manner.
· Explore and negotiate positions and alternatives to reach outcomes that gain acceptance of all parties (carriers/customers/sales representatives/operations/administration).
- Provide daily/weekly/monthly reporting if requested.

Essentials For Your Success
- Strong business knowledge of the North American transportation market and carriers

- Experience in a non-asset brokerage model with knowledge of open deck, and/or closed van trailers, reefers, heavy haul, and more.

- Strong computer and analytical Skills
- Knowledge of Windows applications and Microsoft Office programs such as Word and Excel
- Knowledge of Load Link/PC Miler/DAT/RMIS – whichever may apply.
- Knowledge of open deck/over dimensional/heavy weight transportation when required.
- Strong communication skills. (Written and Oral)
- Willingness to travel, as needed
Education and/or Experience
- Minimum Education Required: High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Minimum Experience Required: Two (2) years in a related field of over the road transportation and brokerage (planning/customer service/Logistics Specialist/planner).
- Desirable Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in related field and other professional designations related to the Transportation and Logistics Field.
