THE OPPORTUNITY:
The Claims Supervisor functions as the supervisor of claims examiners and specialists handling medical only, lost time, and litigated workers’ compensation claims. Their primary responsibilities include ensuring proper investigation, file documentation, reserving adequacy and timely disposition of files.
LOCATION:
In-Person/Hybrid (Home Office)
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Supervise claims representatives, examiners and adjusters handling workers’ compensation claims with exposure up to $250,000.
- Oversee and be responsible for litigation management within the WC unit.
- Ensure that appropriate reserving techniques are being used.
- Audit claim files for compliance with claims guidelines, service expectations, and market conduct.
- Provide settlement authority to claims examiners where needed.
- Provide supervision, training, and direction to personnel regarding proper workers’ compensations coverage analysis, claim investigation, file documentation, and customer service.
- Maintain a diary on claims examiner files that present significant exposures and challenges.
- Prepare and conduct employee performance evaluations.
- Provide necessary information for reinsurers.
- Ensure compliance with Unfair Claims Practice laws in each state.
- Effectively work with other departments on matters that affect the entire company.
- Participate and encourage others to engage in continuing education.
- Evaluate overall performance and expenses of Nurse Case Managers and Defense Attorneys.
- Performs other duties or special projects as required, or as assigned by Manager.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
- Four-year college degree or comparable claims work experience.
- Minimum of 5 years industry experience.
- Completion of the AIC designation or participation in the CPCU program.
- Understanding and appreciation of technical matters such as coverage analysis, customer service, investigative quality, appropriate file documentation, timely and adequate reserving, jurisdictional requirements, and loss adjustment expense control.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines; high energy, self-motivated and proactive.
