Key Deliverables of the Position
· Active contribution to the profitability of the business
· Supplier Development: Continuously improving the ability of the supply chain to deliver quality parts on time for lowest total cost
· Continuous reduction of non-conformances from suppliers
· Manage the risk of non-conforming material getting into production
· Represent, advocate, and ensure that suppliers’ needs and capabilities are integrated into new designs
· Support lean initiatives for managing the supply chain
· Provide metallurgical support
Typical job duties include:
· Managing supplier relationships as it pertains to quality including
o approving/disapproving suppliers
o maintenance of the Approved Supplier List
o facilitating scrap reduction projects with suppliers and internal functions
o root cause analysis to eliminate purchased part non-conformances
o performing quality system, process and part auditing,
o monitoring the overall quality performance of the supplier
· Purchasing support
o manage P.O. requirements
o manage PPAP requirements
o coordinate manufacturability reviews
o provide technical support to suppliers
· Configuration Control Board participation
· SCAR & SRD management
o Issue and track
o maintain logs
· Shipping support
o material certification analysis
· Participate in new product development as it relates to purchased parts and materials, including
o facilitation of process planning with the supplier
o Inspection plan creation and maintenance
o first article (incoming)
§ preparation of FAI layouts
§ evaluation of FAI results
· Facilitate failure analysis by working with local outside metallurgical labs for use in analyzing new designs, new manufacturing methods, field issues and manufacturing nonconformance’s
· Some domestic & foreign travel to the supplier location is required, (approximately 15% of the time)
Requirements
Preferred Education and Experience
· BS Degree in Metallurgical /Materials Science Engineering
· Minimum of 5 years manufacturing experience
Required Primary Competencies:
Technical Competencies
1) Experience with Quality Systems (ISO9000, AS9100, TS6949, etc.)
2) Knowledge of special processes ( Heat treating, chemical processing, shot peening)
3) Knowledge of Non-destructive testing (Magnetic Particle, Fluorescent Penetrant)
4) Structured problem solving skills to determine root cause, including FMEA, SPC, Control Plans
5) Familiar with Lean Manufacturing philosophy
6) Knowledge of statistical sampling and analysis
7) Technical Writing Skills
8) Auditing skills
9) Team facilitation skills
10) Basic computer skills; (Microsoft Office, Outlook, Access)
11) Willingness to travel
12) Knowledge of basic metallurgical evaluation tools and techniques
