Position Description
The Teen Services Librarian creates and implements teen and tween (ages 12-19) services and programming for a fast paced and high-volume library. This position is responsible for decision making of the library-based services and tasks, including organizing daily in-house and outreach programs, reference services, collection maintenance and development, youth STEM events, makerspace technologies, coding, digital design or creation tools and guide youth as they explore digital media and library resources. This position also assists and supports the Youth Services staff with routine library duties such as coverage on circulation desk/youth services desk, checking materials in and out, creating library cards as well as supervisory duties in the absence of a senior manager. This full-time position requires flexibility in schedule including evenings and weekends. This position ensures that the highest level of service is provided by staff to all patrons.
Primary Responsibilities/Duties
· Adopts a connected learning approach to presenting programs, classes and events for and with teens and tweens so that they educate, inform and inspire.
· Plans, produces and evaluates programs and services for young adults including STEM programs and those that use resources in the library makerspace.
· Proficiency with consumer-grade maker equipment such as a laser cutter, 3D printer, digital cutter, heat press, sewing machine, laminator, breadboards and electronic components, hand tools, and soldering kit.
· Participates in community activities and meetings. Maintains contact with organizations and library patrons in order to interpret the services and objectives of the library.
· Ensures the library’s collections include relevant print and digital resources aimed at the specific interests and needs of the teens and tweens in the community. Curates content, including digital resources and special collections, for and with teen and tween patrons, based on their needs and interests.

Qualifications/Distinguishing Characteristics
· Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited institution required.
· Must have knowledge of the developmental, recreational, and educational needs of young adults, including:
o Knowledge of current trends in library services for and with young adults.
o Knowledge of standard library procedures, current information technology, internet and database search capabilities.
o Knowledge of connected learning and ability to design programs that embed connected learning principles.
o Knowledge of best practices in teen and tween services, including guidelines and standards published by ALA, YALSA and other recognized organizations.
o Knowledge of best practices in community assessment and engagement.
o Knowledge of effective practices in evaluation and outcomes measurement.
· Proficiency with use of social media technology (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Twitch, Discord, Tiktok, Snapchat, etc.).
· Strong commitment to working in a team environment.
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both professional and nonprofessional, co-workers, management personnel, and the public.
· Ability to supervise and work well with teens and tweens to foster a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion for staff and patrons.
· Ability to prioritize, complete multiple tasks, and meet program deadlines.
· Ability to create clear and concise reports, and to deliver them orally to a wide variety of audiences.
· Must be able to work days, nights and weekends.
