Job Summary:
This Adjunct – Honors position will teach sophomore-level interdisciplinary honors course with a focus on sustainability. The incumbent will supervise students organizing Earth Week activities; Plan and supervise semester activities that meet course objectives; Maintain records on and evaluate student performance; Assign grades.
Compensation:
This is a part time position with per course compensation:
$3,450 per credit hour - Doctorate
$3,150 Per credit hour - Masters
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Anthropology, Environmental Science, or related field.
- Previous experience teaching within Higher Education
Desired Qualifications:
- Doctorate degree in Anthropology, Environmental Science, or related field.
- Experience teaching university students in a diverse environment
- Professional experience related to sustainability and environmental issues
Other Qualifications:
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship and relocation allowance is not available for this position.
- Report to work obligations to support the department and may require work during HPU’s winter break, if necessary.
- Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with the Protection of Minors policy.
- Able to teach classes scheduled during days, evenings, and weekends.
- Able to teach classes at multiple locations on Oahu.
- Successful candidate will be able to work in an environment that utilize excellent time and stress management skills.
Key Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions:
1.Prepare and teach classes (75%)
- Follow a syllabus of course activities, using established university requirements, appropriate student learning outcomes, and grading methods throughout the semester.
- Plan and deliver individual classes that conform to the syllabus and other requirements of the University.
2.Evaluation and Grading (10%)
- Maintain records on student participation and performance, evaluate student performance on the basis of established student learning outcomes, and assign grades.
- Submit student grades in a timely manner.
3. Office hours (5%)
- Hold regular office hours and respond to student questions
4. Supervise student activities (5%)
- Attend/supervise student-planned activities during Earth Week and/or other class-related activities.
5. Performs other related duties as assigned (5%)
- Actively participates as an effective member of the team by completing assigned duties, accepting additional assignments or reassignments.
