Overview
The Grounds/Maintenance Worker at Heathcote Botanical Gardens plays an integral role in the overall success of the Gardens. The Grounds/Maintenance Worker does a variety of tasks to achieve a pleasant and functional environment, thereby creating a memorable experience for Gardens’ guests. The Grounds/Maintenance Worker will execute a strategy, as set forth by the Executive Director and the Board of Trustees, for all Heathcote Botanical Gardens’ daily operations, events, and rental opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Perform regular lawn and garden care activities, including mowing, edging, and fertilizing.
- Maintain landscape features by planting flowers, shrubs, and trees as needed.
- Utilize power tools and equipment for groundskeeping tasks effectively and safely.
- Conduct tree trimming and pruning to promote healthy growth and maintain safety.
- Build and maintain hardscape elements such as walkways, patios, and retaining walls.
- Dig trenches or holes for planting or installation of landscaping features.
- Ensure all areas are clean and free of debris by regularly picking up litter and maintaining cleanliness.
- Collaborate with team members to complete larger projects efficiently while adhering to safety protocols.
Experience
- One year of proven experience in groundskeeping or landscape maintenance.
- Familiarity with power tools and equipment used in landscaping tasks is essential.
- Mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot equipment issues as they arise is a plus.
- Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting heavy materials and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Experience in hardscape construction techniques is advantageous but not mandatory.
Requirements:
- Must possess a valid State of Florida Driver’s License
- Must maintain insurability under the company auto liability policy.
