Job Classification: Non-exempt, Full-time – some Saturdays required

Reporting Relationship: HHHS Veterinarian
Primary Accountability:
The Medical Center Coordinator provides support to the veterinary staff of HHHS by leading the daily operations of the medical center. The position hires and supervises the vet assistants and medical kennel technicians and ensures all work is accomplished in an accurate and timely manner.
Major Duties:
- Supervises veterinary staff; develops monthly work schedules including approving/disapproving time off; trains new employees on policies and procedures; evaluates performances; provide disciplinary action when required
- Leads the hiring process for veterinary staff; conducts interviews of candidates and determines which candidate to hire
- Oversees the movement of animals pre- and post-surgery; assists in developing daily surgery list
- Calculates dosages, administers, and logs controlled drugs correctly; supervises the administration of all medications
- Assists with maintaining accurate medical records in shelter database; enters veterinary medical notes/physical exams as dictated by veterinarian
- Orders and inventories all products and medications; receives shipments and restocks supplies
- Follows all operating room protocols
- Performs animal restraint and handling for various medical procedures
- Performs humane euthanasia on shelter animals adhering to details in the shelter euthanasia policy and guidelines according to state law and the AVMA
- Provides excellent patient care; maintains a humane and caring attitude at all times towards the animals in care
- Performs additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Within six (6) months of appointment to position, must become approved and able to perform euthanasia based on shelter procedures and guidelines
- Strong computer and word processing skills
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- Ability to interact with impounded dogs, cats and other animals including vicious, stray, sick or injured animals
- Ability to handle seeing and dealing with animals that have been abused, neglected or treated cruelly
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with staff
- Ability to work efficiently with attention to details and quality of work produced
- Ability to exercise good judgment in setting priorities and organization of work load
Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear, stoop, bend, squat, kneel, etc.
- Ability to push or pull supplies up to 25 lbs
- Ability to physically handle and restrain domestic animals
- Ability to read computer screens and mail; talk on the phone
Work Environment:
- Professional and deadline-oriented environment in an office setting
- Interaction with staff and customers
- Potential exposure to parasites and infectious diseases that may be carried and transmitted by animals
