Title: Part Time Laborer
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Department: Facilities
Supervisor: Building Maintenance Supervisor
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Provides general labor assistance as needed for groundskeeping, facilities maintenance, and custodial services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Operates mowing, groundskeeping, and snow removal equipment on County properties as assigned.
- Operates County vehicles and other motorized equipment for assigned tasks.
- Checks equipment for proper fuel and lubrication levels and general maintenance needs.
- Provides general labor assistance for maintenance of County buildings as assigned.
- Provides general labor assistance for moving and storing County furniture, fixtures, and equipment as assigned.
- Provides general labor assistance for performance of County custodial duties as assigned.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Performs minor maintenance and repair of equipment and tools needed to perform daily tasks.
EDUCTAION AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to read and follow general work schedules and instructions.
- Ability to operate necessary equipment such as lawn mower, gas powered trimmer, snow blower, utility vehicle, trailers, pumps, basic hand tools, etc., in any weather situation
- Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out detailed written and/or oral instructions.
- Ability to use personal computers and related equipment, typical office suite programs, and cell phone-based communications
- Must have and maintain a valid Indiana driver’s license.
RESPONSIBILITY:
- Incumbent works under established guidelines and procedures.
- Work requires skill and care.
- Tasks are routine but change due to seasonal weather conditions and building use schedules.
- Errors in work cause moderate to severe risk and may have cost repercussions.
- Work is reviewed upon completion.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
Working relationships are with supervisor, associates in same department, other County departments and personnel, other contracted service providers, and limited contact with the general public.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
- Use hands and fingers to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee frequently is required to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk and hear.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move greater than 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.
- The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
- The noise level in the work environment ranges from moderate to loud.
