Job Summary: Responsible for administering the NorthStar Care Community employee relations program.  Serves as a consultant and key advisor in workforce initiatives aimed at improving work relations, building morale, and increasing productivity and retention. Ensures compliance with all legislative requirements and organizational needs.   Responsible for full-cycle recruiting in assigned areas.


Essential Functions:

  • Works collaboratively with others to ensure organizational strategic results are achieved.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with all levels of leadership and staff.
  • Provides consultation to supervisory and leadership staff on performance management, including coaching, counseling, career development and disciplinary action for staff.
  • Responsible for managing complex employee relations which often require independent thought and action. Evaluates complex situations and recommends appropriate action(s) to resolve issues.
  • Engages in continuous risk management assessments.
  • Provides consultation with employee issues. May include conducting effective, thorough, and objective investigations of complex employee relations issues or complaints.
  • Manages full cycle recruiting process in assigned areas to meet the various staffing goals.
  • Provides guidance to leadership and employees on the interpretation and application of company policies, practices, and processes.
  • Facilitates development and administration of programs, procedures, and guidelines to assist management to align the workforce with the strategic goals of NorthStar Care Community.
  • Analyzes trends and metrics in partnership with leadership and the Human Resources team to identify opportunities, develop solutions, programs, and policies.
  • Works to understand and improve employee turnover.  Assists in developing and establishing effective retention strategies including staff enrichment programs, training and development opportunities, incentive programs, interdisciplinary teams.
  • Administers, organizes, and/or facilitates training and educational programs in connection with employee orientation.  Supports implementation and on-going execution of new employee general orientation.
  • Undertakes special projects to enhance Human Resources processes and programs.
  • Performs baseline generalist responsibilities for designated area/departments. 
  • Prepares, reviews, and files required legal reports, as required.
  • Completes special projects as assigned, required.
  • Assists with OSHA-related reporting and interpreting related laws and regulations.
  • Assists in evaluation of reports, decisions, and results of department in relation to established goals.  Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed.
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local legislation including FMLA, ADA, ADEA, OSHA, COBRA, HIPAA, and other employment regulations. 
  • Stays current with legislative and regulatory changes that affect human resources.  Proactively participates in internal and external education, training, in-services, and other activities.
  • Accurately inputs, updates, and tracks confidential employee records in HRIS.
  • Develops queries and generates a variety of reports and statistical summaries. 
  • Adjusts to changes in workload and schedules based on changing team priorities.
  • Actively participates in activities that promote NorthStar Care Community’s mission in the community.
  • Adheres to organizational Code of Conduct, policies, procedures, protocols and processes and all regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Adheres to the NorthStar standards to care for every person, every time, 100% of the time.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Administration, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or related field required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of progressively more responsible human resources or related experience is required, preferably in a health care organization or corporate human resources environment.
  • Previous employee relations and recruitment experience required.
  • PHR/SPHR certification or similar professional certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications, HRIS and related reporting systems required.  Experience utilizing applicant tracking systems preferred.
  • Working knowledge of legislation impacting Human Resources in the workplace including FMLA, ADA, ADEA, OSHA, worker’s compensation, and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, etc.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, sound judgment, effective organizational, prioritization and follow-through skills, attention to detail, tact, dependability, emotional intelligence and the ability to maintain confidentiality and promote positive, constructive relationships with communication and collaboration at all levels.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently and be able to communicate orally and in writing in internal and external relationships for all essential job functions.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple demands.  Demonstrates integrity and flexibility and participates actively in change and quality improvement initiatives.
  • The physical and sensory demands of the position include: vision, effective speech and hearing for extensive telephone contact; repetitive motion; traveling; driving or riding in motor vehicle; standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching, and stretching; lifting up to twenty five (25) pounds unassisted.
  • Must have reliable transportation to be able to travel and maintain the rigors of a busy schedule.  Frequently works variable hours/days; activities and workload may require extended days. 
  • Must be physically and mentally capable of performing all essential duties required of the position.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.
