Job Purpose
The Buyer (Direct) position is responsible for purchasing materials, supplies and/or equipment, including negotiating favorable terms and conditions with suppliers, executing purchases in a timely manner, researching possible item selections and processing purchase orders.
Duties and responsibilities
- Forecast and communicate engineering, materials, and manufacturing requirements to suppliers.
- Process purchase orders.
- Generate and publish key process indicators and track total landed cost targets.
- Help identify preliminary critical parts and inspection requirements.
- Performs make/buy analysis and identifies opportunities.
- Analyze BOM cost to identify cost reduction opportunities through design, content reduction/should cost and commercial means.
- Facilitate early engagement between supplier and drive manufacturability, repeatability cost and lead time.
- Develop lead time mitigation strategies.
- Work with supplier to identify their ability to expand capacity to support volume manufacturing.
- Drive dual sourcing activities to mitigate supply risk.
- Present sourcing, costs, lead time reduction, capacity initiatives to key stake holders, management, and internal customer.
- Coordinating with stakeholders, both internal and external, to ensure contracts that are developed mitigate risk and deliver competitive advantage by knowing and following all established Company contracting policy and procedures.
- Establish and execute strategy for assigned commodities.
- Formulate annual business plans for achievement of cost reductions and year over year supplier performance improvement: price, delivery & quality standards.
- Initiate renegotiation efforts well in advance of contract expiration and monitors industry trends to anticipate opportune timing to lock-in contract advantages.
- Obtain and analyze quotes to determine best value, then recommends global sourcing solutions based on data and facts collected through sound data sources and site visits.
- Familiar with engineering and operations supply requirements through regular contact, visits, and participation in product life cycle as well as program management meetings.
- Familiar with key cost drivers and industry related events to assigned category.
- Monitor performance of the suppliers to ensure attainment of objectives in quality, delivery, service, and cost.
- Coordinate supplier selection and leads supplier transitions.
- Monitor compliance with supplier contractual requirements.
- Identify opportunities for global leverage of volumes and purchasing power.
- Ensure and monitor the results and contribution, of the assigned commodity, to departmental and corporate objectives.
- Ability to Analyze and differentiate cost of price and cost of quality.
- Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned, needed, or required for the business.

Qualifications include:
Education, Experience and Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, supply chain, business, or related discipline
- 5 years of related experience
- NetSuite experience preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to work with people at all levels within and outside of the organization in a professional manner.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, including ability to identify and resolve issues and challenges.
- Strong team player, able to work effectively on cross-functional teams.
- Strong personal computer skills required, including experience with MS Office, & Oracle software.
- Ability to manage order to pay process from start to finish.
- Must understand the importance of seeking improvements in Cost, Quality and Delivery performance in supplier selection and contracting.
- Purchasing experience in a JIT manufacturing organization where process uptime is key, “get it done attitude”.
Role Classification and Working Conditions
This is a salaried, exempt-level position. This position typically works in an office environment; and given the nature of our business is also exposed to operations/warehouses/production environments.
