Position Title: Journey-Level Lathe Operator
Location: Ide Machine Company (IMC)
Position Summary:
The Journey-Level Lathe Operator at Ide Machine Company (IMC) is responsible for the efficient setup and operation of lathes and Vertical Turning Lathes (VTLs) with a high degree of independence and precision. This role involves selecting tooling, creating and implementing methods, and ensuring product quality and production efficiency. The operator will also provide first-piece inspections for other machinists when required, uphold IMC’s Quality Assurance Program, and take on training and supervisory duties as needed.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Machine Setup and Operation:
- Set up and operate lathes, VTLs, cranes, and material handling equipment.
- Ensure all setups and operations are executed according to detailed blueprint specifications and job orders.
- Select tooling and create methods and procedures for efficient production.
- Quality Assurance:
- Adhere to IMC’s Quality Assurance Program, demonstrating a commitment to maintaining high standards of part quality and consistency.
- Perform first-piece inspections and verify tolerances to meet IMC’s specifications.
- Contribute to the overall quality of production by identifying and resolving issues promptly.
- Training and Oversight:
- Train and supervise less-experienced machinists and trainees.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and quality standards by all personnel under training.
- Conduct regular safety briefings and provide feedback to trainees to foster their skills and confidence.
- Maintenance and Organization:
- Perform daily lubrication and basic maintenance of machinery to ensure continuous, smooth operation.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to 5S principles and IMC’s shop floor standards.
- Operational Flexibility:
- Willingness to work overtime as necessary to meet production schedules.
- Operate other IMC equipment with assistance as needed, adapting to changing production demands.
Accountability Measures:
- Quality Metrics: Achieve a 98% pass rate in first-piece inspections and adhere strictly to blueprint tolerances.
- Productivity Targets: Meet or exceed weekly production goals for assigned tasks and work orders.
- Maintenance Compliance: Complete daily lubrication and basic machine upkeep tasks, logging all actions per IMC’s maintenance schedule.
Qualifications:
- Availability: Willingness to work overtime as required.
Reporting and Relationships:
- Reports directly to the Shop Floor Manager.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 - $25.00 per hour
