POSITION
The Director, Patient Services—Patient Education Field Lead is a strategic, field-based, leadership role reporting to the Executive Director, Patient Education Field Lead and is responsible for designing, building, and leading the patient education manager team at Ionis. The successful candidate will lead/hire a team of Patient Education Managers (PEMs) who are responsible for empowering and educating patients and caregivers. POSITION

Responsibilities
- Hire, lead and coach a patient-facing Patient Education Manager team of 5-12 field-based professionals to meet and exceed patient support objectives and performance metrics
- Develop and execute a strategic plan for patient education, aligned with brand goals, reimbursement trends, and new product launches
- Design and lead implementation of patient-journey-based education workflows with operational, systems and data partners
- Conduct ongoing refinement of PEM team strategy and educational materials to increase awareness and optimize service offerings
- Develop success measures for PEM team to demonstrate ongoing monitoring of progress and results
- Overall team performance management, including objective setting, coaching, training, development and evaluation/analysis
- Conduct field rides, performance reviews and check in calls to coach, develop and support team members
- Collaborate with Medical Affairs, Market Access, and Commercial to ensure aligned patient support strategies and compliant educational content
- Leverage your diverse industry expertise in people management, clinical, access, and reimbursement expertise to holistically provide guidance and direction to PEMs
- Demonstrates commitment to team growth by sharing perspectives, insights, and recommend strategies in developing patient education solutions, and integrate into overall patient services vision and goals/objectives
- Participate in ongoing refinement of patient engagement strategy and educational materials to increase awareness and optimize service offerings
- Ensure all educational programs are fully compliant with industry regulations and develop key metrics for program effectiveness as well as executing rigorous compliance monitoring plans and systems
- Partner with internal stakeholders to develop and track performance metrics and implement accurate strategies and tactics informed by analytics and data gathered
- Complete all requisite training and ensure full compliance with all applicable corporate and industry policies
- Bachelor’s degree required; Advanced degree preferred
- Minimum 10 years’ industry experience with expertise in building and operationalizing patient support teams
- Led field-based patient services/support teams with a patient centric approach
- Visionary leader who has overcome challenges and successfully launched new initiatives
- Ability to manage multiple projects, work in complex environments, and lead a diverse team
- Ability to manage ambiguity, navigate complexity, and be creative and solutions-oriented
- Ability to lead without authority, supporting prioritization of resources
- Exceptional communication skills and ability to interface with both internal and external partners and stakeholders
- Proven track record of leadership in patient engagement, cross-functional team collaboration, and delivering results that meet or exceed targeted objectives
- A curious leader who is eager to listen, has the courage to ask bold questions and influence via strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Passion for understanding and championing the needs of patients and caregivers
- Prior product launch experience preferred
- Cross functional leader that has experience building a new function in an organization
- Understanding of the legal and regulatory environment in pharmaceutical services, pharmaceutical industry guidelines, and other compliance-related issues
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically as required (up to 70%)
