Job Description:
The Prep Cook/Porter will assist with daily food preparation tasks, ensure the kitchen remains clean and organized, and maintain health and safety standards. Working closely with the chef and other kitchen staff, you will prepare ingredients, keep the kitchen stocked, clean, and sanitized, and ensure proper maintenance of all kitchen tools and equipment.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Food Preparation: Complete all items on the daily preparation list, including washing, chopping, and prepping vegetables, proteins (plant-based), sauces, and other ingredients.
- Cleaning and Maintenance: Ensure the availability of clean dishes, pots, pans, and utensils by washing and sanitizing kitchen equipment. Maintain a clean work area by following health and safety guidelines, including sanitizing surfaces, sweeping, and mopping floors.
- Stocking and Storage: Throughout the shift, assist with keeping the kitchen, walk-in refrigerators, and freezers clean, organized, and properly stocked. Follow proper food storage and rotation procedures to maintain freshness and minimize waste.
- Equipment and Tools: Clean and maintain kitchen equipment such as large pots, sheet trays, and hotel pans. Please make sure all tools and utensils are properly sanitized and stored.
- Support to Chef: Follow directions from the chef and assist with receiving daily orders, properly storing ingredients, and helping with the delivery of food to local distribution locations when needed.
- Health and Safety Compliance: Ensure the kitchen adheres to state health and hygiene requirements and Chunky Vegan’s culinary standards.
- Assist with Deliveries: Help with receiving and storing daily orders, ensuring all ingredients and supplies are handled appropriately.
Qualifications:
- Three (3) months of experience in a kitchen or restaurant environment is preferred.
- Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail in food preparation, cleaning, and sanitization.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. and stand for extended periods.
- Commitment to health and safety standards.
- Passion for plant-based food and sustainability is a plus.
