Position Overview: As a Manufacturing Engineer Intern at Irwin, you will gain hands-on experience in the manufacturing environment by supporting various engineering tasks and collaborating with the manufacturing team. This internship is designed to develop and enhance your engineering skills through hands-on experience, allowing you to actively participate in innovative projects that drive efficiency and quality in our manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Collaboration:
- Learn how the manufacturing team operates, including execution, measurement, problem-solving, and improvement strategies.
- Assist team members in daily activities and contribute to team discussions and meetings.
- Participate in product launch activities.
Work Balance Support:
- Support efforts in balancing work processes within various departments and Paint Line areas in plant.
- Observe and document current workflows to identify areas for improvement.
Department Layout Creation and Work Instructions:
- Utilize AutoCAD to create department layouts and develop scenarios for optimized workflows.
- Participate in brainstorming sessions to propose layout improvements based on observed inefficiencies.
- Engage in cell design process.
- Develop and document work instructions for various areas.
Data Analysis and Process Improvement:
- Assist in data collection and analysis for department metrics, including efficiency, productivity, and quality.
- Support the creation of reports and presentations to communicate findings to the engineering team.
- Problem solve various process related issues through a collaborative approach
Preferred/Required Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar software.
- Strong analytical skills and familiarity with data analysis tools.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members.
- Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment and contribute positively to group dynamics.
- Willingness to learn and take on new challenges in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or listen. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and loud machinery. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
