Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia’s capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. To provide exceptional student programs and services by providing information, guidance, and oversight in the areas of student life programs, club sports and recreational activities.
Reynolds Gymnasium Operations and Programming
- Oversee Reynolds Gymnasium activity, check in, and usage procedure at the Parham Road campus.
- Gather and file completed Assumption of Risk (AOR) forms from gym users and activity participants; routinely enter and maintain AOR data as received
- Maintain a safe and clean environment in the Reynolds Gym and storage areas for the Parham Road campus. Submit maintenance and facilities requests as needed.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of available games, equipment, program supply, and resources for the Reynolds Gym, club sports, and recreational activities.
- Communicate any changes in the activity schedule or operating hours with the Student Life team.
- Coordinate routine safety inspections and repairs with outside vendor and/or facilities (depending on scope).
- Coordinate recreation programming that may include not limited to club sport interest sessions, pick up games, “stress-less” programming prior to exam periods, collaborative programming with Student Support Services, etc.
Mascot Program
- Facilitate the mascot request and scheduling process.
- Recruit, audition, train, and onboard student staff to perform our fun and dynamic mascot.
- Serve as handler for appearances at campus and off-campus events.
- Take and upload photos and video from mascot appearances for future marketing and promotion; plan and implement a timeline of social media posts for various appearances.
- Prepare mascot costume, supply and equipment prior to each mascot appearance; prepare travel bag (if needed).
- Perform routine cleaning procedures on the mascot costume; organize and tidy changing space at the Parham Road campus.
Club Sports & Recreational Activities
- Serve as the default advisor and facilitator to all club sports.
- Assist with recruitment, training, and onboarding of new club sports and their captains.
- Enter event reservation requests as needed via the Ad Astra Scheduling platform for recreational activities.
- Manage and enter all club sport and recreational activities on the college calendar (Cascade).
- Identify vendors, gather quotes and submit funding requests for recreational activities and on behalf of club sports for equipment or materials needed.
- Gather and maintain club sport records including contact information, list of captains, membership roster, activity participation, etc.
- Create print and digital media content publicizing club sports and recreational activities.
Other Duties
- Provide front desk coverage, receive visitors and respond to questions at Student Life Center and/or Reynolds Gymnasium as assigned. Engage in appropriate timely follow up and provide written and/or oral responses to students and colleagues.
- Participate in department, division or college-wide activities determined by the Director and/or Dean of Students.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both orally and in writing. Must have strong professional and interpersonal skills demonstrated through interactions in person, on the telephone, and email.
- Possesses a strong customer-focused and solution-oriented mindset.
- Can work independently on appropriate tasks and well within team settings. Work cooperatively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated independent ability to utilize strong decision-making and organizational skills required to manage student space and activities.
- Considerable skills and proficiency in personal computers and the latest computing tools inclusive of Microsoft Office Suites software (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to manage multiple priorities successfully.
- Demonstrable skills and proficiency with Canva and/or social media platforms is preferred.
