Job Description:
The Media & Marketing Support Manager plays a key role in the internal and external communications of the marketing, storytelling and overall brand awareness of Japan Society. Primarily working with our six-member Media & Marketing team, and occasionally on special projects for some of our cultural programs, the role helps handle internal project management and communications, coordination with external vendors, PR agencies, press, key stakeholders, support in community outreach, marketing partnerships and media relations management (with the inclusion of Japanese speaking media). A primary goal will be to help drive brand engagement, awareness and coverage through programming and campaigns within various media platforms, utilizing tools provided by the marketing, programming and development teams. This role has the potential to evolve as deliverables are achieved.
Key Responsibilities:
Coordinate within the Media & Marketing team the management of various projects and campaigns, ensuring proper communications channels, documentation, schedules and best practices are met.
Handle inter-departmental communication on project needs including schedules, assets and approvals.
Establish relationships within the community and amongst key stakeholders and partners to help aid in marketing goals, brand awareness and outreach.
Identify new opportunities amongst press, media and influencers, to generate increased coverage and attention for Japan Society.
Work with outside PR agencies to fulfill deliverables, assets and convey key information and ideas.
Monitor and provide analytics of Japan Society press coverage.
Attend key events and meetings where communications and outreach is needed.
Help execute on ad buys, finance and human resources documentation and general upkeep of archive materials.
Provide Japanese translation and language support on multiple levels to several departments, including but not limited to Japanese communications, translation of materials and emails, proofreading and administrative needs.
On a case-by-case basis, be able to handle press and communications needs, including but not limited to press releases, press requests and press management.
Address marketing and communications inquiries from external parties.
Work amongst the Media & Marketing team to aid in the support of email, social media, website, print and design, offering guidance from a communications perspective.
Compensation:
The compensation range for this role is $55,000.00 to $60,000.00. We also offer the support of superb benefits equivalent to 35% of this annual salary, a flexible work model, a responsive, proactive, and engaged leadership team, and a talented and diverse Media & Marketing team.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, advertising or a related field.
Proven experience in relevant fields of work (1-2 years recommended).
Proficiency with project management, communications and office software (Google, Microsoft Office, Dropbox, Slack, ClickUp, etc.).
Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives and adapt content for different digital platforms and audiences.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work across multiple programming departments and provide insight and support to an organized Media & Marketing team as well as press and external parties (primarily focused in NYC and Japan).
Japanese language proficiency on a business level for translation and communications is a must.
Knowledge of digital marketing principles, key media platforms and outlets.
Knowledge of communications monitoring and generating software (Meltwater, Cision, etc.).
Knowledge of social media platforms, trends and best practices, primarily focused on Instagram, Facebook, X and LinkedIn.
Flexibility in working hours in order to attend programming and events when necessary.
Experience working within a team in a high-volume project environment.
Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Mailchimp and related software is a plus.
Passion for Japan and Japanese culture.
