ABOUT THE SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT


The Custodial Services department is comprised of over 500 highly dedicated employees working at over 150 district facilities. We are responsible for providing a safe, healthy and clean learning environment for the students, staff, and communities of Jeffco. In addition to cleaning tasks, Custodial Services employees support many other activities such as athletics, after school activities, community building use, lawn maintenance, snow removal, and much more.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENT


The successful new hire or rehired candidate will be responsible to complete and incur the fingerprinting and processing fee of $54.50 through an appropriate fingerprinting vendor and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, within 48 hours of offer acceptance.

RESPONSIBILITIES


SUMMARY: Assist Principals and Facilities Mangers to ensure District and department standards of cleanliness, grounds upkeep, custodial training, and selection of custodial personnel are maintained. As a team, share supervisory responsibility for approximately 500 Facility Managers, Head Custodians, and Custodians.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential

Evaluate and assist Facility Managers in establishing and meeting cleanliness, maintenance, grounds, security, and cleaning standards.

Perform administrative functions related to personnel matters, such as department and District policies and procedures. Recommend and assist in corrective action for facility managers, head custodians, and custodians in compliance with the district policy and the JESPA collective bargaining agreement.

Assume Custodial Services Supervisor duties as determined by the department Director.

Inspect facilities regularly to ensure department cleaning and administrative procedures are being followed.

Complete all employee selection and onboarding functions. Hiring manager responsibilities include determining applicant eligibility, conducting interviews, notifying ineligible applicants, and selecting candidates.

Hire, train, schedule, and orientate substitute custodians. Monitor their work performance and initiate corrective actions when needed.

Identify, recommend, and assist with training all custodial personnel, including conducting on-site training on management practices and cleaning techniques. This will include assisting in the implementation of deferred area cleaning schedules.

Assist Principals, Facility Managers, and Head Custodians in understanding and complying with JESPA Agreement and District policies.

Establish operating procedures to conform to district standards.

Coordinate and supervise building moves within the District to support various projects.

Act as liaison on procedures, policies, and implementation of training programs in the custodial field.

Respond to emergencies when required.

Evaluate and recommend the purchase of new cleaning products and equipment.

Collaborate with fellow Field Coordinators, assume their duties and shift in their absence.

Perform other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE: Requires 1 years of experience as a building engineer, area lead, building operations supervisor, maintenance manager, or property manager for a commercial facility. Experience in an educational or multi-site campus-style environment preferred.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: Bachelor degree required. Additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, OR REGISTRATIONS: Must successfully complete internal Minor Maintenance training, First Line Supervisory course, and asbestos training (16 hours) within 6 months after hire.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of various cleaning methods, products, and equipment. Understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations related to custodial work. Knowledge of supervisory practices, including staff management and training. Familiarity with inventory control practices for cleaning supplies and equipment. Basic knowledge of building maintenance procedures and how they integrate with custodial services. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for clear and effective interactions. Strong organizational and time management skills to manage multiple tasks, schedules, and priorities. Strong customer service skills to resolve issues. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and foster a collaborative work environment. Ability to handle conflicts and disputes effectively and professionally. Ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously.

SPAN OF CONTROL: As a team, share supervising up to 500 Facility Managers, Head Custodians and Custodians in the Custodial Services Department. Field Coordinator is responsible for directing work, hiring, evaluations, training, and administering discipline of Facility Managers, Head Custodians and Custodians in the Custodial Services Department. Spends 51%-75% of time conducting supervisory responsibilities. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Acts as a technical resource to custodial staff by providing training in materials, equipment, personnel issues, contract interpretation, and facility maintenance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to focus on objects at varying distances and distinguish between colors (with corrective lenses). Perform tasks that require manual dexterity, including operation of computers & small office equipment. Basic mobility and the ability to navigate spaces safely, climb ladders or stairs, and bend and crouch to
inspect areas. Ability to speak clearly, listen attentively (with assistance devices), and convey information accurately. May be required to give presentations to groups. May need to demonstrate tasks typically performed by custodial staff (requiring bending/stooping, ability to climb ladders).

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to analyze situations, identify potential risks, and devise effective solutions. Ability to remain flexible, adjusting plans as necessary to accommodate changing requirements or circumstances. Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with other teams. Ability to manage time and priorities to meet deadlines.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work will be primarily performed both in offices and frequent site visits to both elementary and secondary school sites. Typical elementary school building may also contain libraries, computer labs, and kitchens. Typical secondary school campus may also contain libraries, science labs, computer labs, kitchens,
auditoriums, gymnasiums & athletic fields, and possibly specialized shops. Will have access to rooms not accessible to general staff: mechanical rooms, boiler rooms, etc. May be exposed to outside elements during travel between campuses and offices. May be exposed to cleaning agents and chemicals, requiring adherence to safety protocols
