What are the responsibilities and job description for the Coordinator of Gifted, Talent, and Arts position at Jefferson Parish School District?
Position Description:
Reporting to the Executive Director of Compliance and Pupil Appraisal, the Coordinator of Gifted/Talented, Extended School Year (ESY) and Assistive Technology is responsible for the gifted and talented education programs, the extended school year program and oversees all aspects of assistive technology devices.
Reports To: Executive Director of Compliance and Pupil Appraisal
Scope of Responsibility:
- Provides assistance to schools by interpreting federal, state and local policies related to supervised programs.
- Prepares federal, state and local reports as appropriate.
- Facilitates professional development for gifted/talented teachers.
- Creates, implements and monitors a yearly action plan to increase the number of students screened for gifted and talented programs.
- Monitors academic competitions.
- Creates and maintains a database of all gifted and talented students.
- Oversees the compliance of G/T IEPs.
- Maintains the contracts for the Talent Evaluators and oversees the talent evaluation process.
- Provides training and support to teachers, administrators and parents in the effective use of assistive technology devices.
- Maintains an inventory of all assistive technology devices.
- Creates and maintains the budgets for assistive technology, ESY and G/T programs.
- Conducts assistive technology evaluations for students in the evaluation process.
- Collaborates with IEP teams on possible assistive technology needs for special education students.
- Provides training on eligibility requirements for ESY services.
- Collaborates with the IEP Coordinators on the hiring of ESY personnel.
- Oversees the ESY program.
- Maintains the licenses of LEAP Connect resources and provides training to school personnel.
- Maintains the licenses and provides training for word prediction and text to speech applications.
- Assists the compliance team with the planning and implementation of special education initiatives.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Compliance and Pupil Appraisal and/or the Chief of Schools.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and a valid Louisiana teaching certificate in Special Education.
- Three (3) years successful teaching experience.
- Proficient in Excel, Word, Power Point and Google Suite.
- Above average knowledge of basic assistive technology devices and software.
- Knowledge of SER and Individualized Education Process.
- Ability to conduct professional developments.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to use data to make decisions and recommendations.
Desirable Qualifications:
- G/T certification
- Advanced degree
Physical Involvement:
Sitting is required most of each workday. Must be able to operate office equipment. Standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting up to 10 pounds is sometimes required. Ability to provide own transportation to schools, work locations, and meeting sites. Mobility skills necessary to access a variety of work locations, including locations not on the ground floor.
