JOB DESCRIPTION

             

Estimator/Sales Representative


SUMMARY

Responsible for developing hard cost estimates on projects for construction as required by client and design documents, providing a total bid and detailed contract specifications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

-         Meet with clients, gather information, review construction documents, understand scope of work, then develop a detailed Scope of Work along with CAD drawings for the proposed project so it can go to the bid stage. Conduct on-site measuring as required.

-         Conduct on-site measuring and walk throughs with trade contractors.

-         Execute take-offs of construction documents.

-         Input take-offs into digital spreadsheet.

-         Obtain pricing for materials.

-         Obtain bids from subcontractors.

-         Review trade contractor estimates and revisions for completeness and accuracy.

-         Prepare specifications for presentation to client.

-         Deliver the specifications and construction contract to clients with a high degree of confidence and passion to be able to sell them on our company values.

-         Interact with field staff to provide technical direction and support, as well as to resolve questions and issues as they arise.

-         Prepares digital cost analysis by recapitulating material, labor, equipment, subcontractor and overhead costs incurred in the installation of items.

-         Informs immediate supervisor of any observed inaccuracies or omissions in quoted items or digital database.

-         The duties are not limited to the information listed above, additional work and responsibilities may be required to be completed as part of normal duties of the job.

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

-         Develops and maintains resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, etc.

-         Attends Team, Sales, and Daily Huddle meetings.

-         Maintains copies of documents and plans.

-         Work at Parade of Homes / Showcase of Homes events, so JRB staff is providing proper coverage of the events.

-         Develop work strategies to execute the job more effectively.

-         Strong Construction background, well versed in residential construction.

-         Customer Service—the individual responds promptly to customer needs, solicits customer feedback to improve service and maintains confidentiality.

-         Written Communication—the individual edits work for spelling and grammar and is able to read and interpret written information.

-         CAD Design abilities, to prepare designs for new construction & remodeling work.

-         Proficient Blueprint reading (required knowledge).

-         Planning/Organizing—the individual prioritizes and plans work activities and uses time efficiently.

-         Analytical and problem-solving skills—The ability to analyze situations and provide solutions to review prior to making final decisions.

-         Quality—the individual demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness and monitors their own work to ensure quality.

-         Adaptability—the individual adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands and is able to deal with frequent changes, delays or unexpected events.

-         Dependability—the individual is consistently at work and on time, follows instructions, responds to management direction, and solicits feedback to improve performance.

-         Safety and Security—the individual observes safety and security procedures and uses equipment and materials properly.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or one to 12 months of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Building construction knowledge and construction product knowledge are a must in this position.

 

 

Language Skills

Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Write correspondence. Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees.


Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret graphs.


Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Construction Knowledge

Knowledge of construction techniques & building product knowledge is a must.

 

Computer Skills

To perform the job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of MS WORD and EXCEL software, e-mail software, estimating software knowledge and the use of the Internet.
