Kalamazoo Public Schools (KPS) is a vibrant, progressive district and home to The Kalamazoo Promise. The Kalamazoo Promise is a unique scholarship that provides up to 100 percent post-secondary tuition and fee assistance for every Kalamazoo Public Schools graduate meeting attendance and residency requirements. Begun in 2005, thanks to the generosity of anonymous donors, The Kalamazoo Promise has awarded more than 8,700 KPS graduates over $165 million in scholarships. The Promise is good at all public universities and colleges in Michigan, as well as at the private schools associated with the Michigan Colleges Alliance. KPS consists of 25 schools; 17 elementary (PreK-grade 5), four middle schools (grades 6-8), four high schools, and a virtual program (grades K-12). Responsibilities:
- Provide direct care to students and staff members in the school setting
- Assess and treat minor injuries and illnesses
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed
- Monitor and manage chronic health conditions of students
- Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans for students with special needs
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to create a safe and healthy school environment
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation
- Educate students, staff, and parents on health-related topics
Experience:
- Experience in a school or pediatric healthcare setting is preferred
- Familiarity with dialysis procedures, health coaching, Athenahealth software, CT scans, workers compensation law, catheterization, esthetic laser treatment, sterile processing, IV insertion, and diagnostic evaluation is a plus
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with students, parents, and staff members
- Ability to remain calm in emergency situations and make quick decisions
- Knowledge of state regulations and guidelines related to school nursing
