Reports to: Director/Manager Exempt Status: YES

Position Purpose:

Under the direct supervision of the anesthesiologist, or designee, properly prepare for and support all designated procedures.

Safe, Quality Patient Care Requirements:

1. Works in all areas of surgery to support all aspects of anesthesia care, including pre and post-surgical procedures.
2. Completes tasks, within the scope of the position and completed KHI competencies.
3. Address difficult or conflict situations constructively and seeks appropriate assistance.
4. Ensures compliance with all regulatory, organizational, and departmental policies and procedures, under the supervision of the anesthesiologist.
5. Actively participates in ongoing quality and process improvement.
6. Maintains and protects patient confidentiality.

Procedural and Operational Requirements:

1. Maintains current competencies for designated patient care tasks.
2. Properly sets up area for patient care, including proper setup and usage of equipment and supplies
3. Performs routine maintenance of anesthesia equipment.
4. Coordinates patient care and monitoring equipment availability with PACU and Critical Care units.
5. Manages work assignments to ensure completion of patient care activities i.e.; keep assigned rooms stocked, clean and ready for our next patient; Works with perioperative team to facilitate a prompt room turnover.
6. Considers budget while maintaining sufficient stock, and reviews for outdates, supplies and non-scheduled drugs in the anesthesia workroom, machines, carts and auxiliary anesthetizing locations.

Qualifications [Statements regarding minimum educational and experience qualifications, required proficiencies with specialized knowledge, computer proficiencies, military service, required certifications, etc.]

· Keyboarding skills: must be able to use designated computer software applications

· Able to demonstrate knowledge and skill in the anesthesia equipment, including proper quality assurance, storage and troubleshooting

· Working knowledge of Anesthesia department procedures, principals of asepsis and sterile technique

· Utilizes effective communication strategies, which result in intended outcomes while meeting KHI vision and mission

Education:

· High School diploma or equivalent

· Satisfies one of the following requirements:

□ Completion of an ASATT certification eligible Anesthesia Tech program;

□ Completion of a Paramedic program (may be evidenced by current national or Arizona Paramedic certification;

□ 3 years of comparable patient care experience in anesthesia and/or emergency services

Licensure/Certification:

· American Heart Association BLS, ACLS and PALS

Preferences [Preferred attributes for the position which are not absolutely required in the minimum qualifications (i.e., multi-lingual, master’s degree)]

Experience:

• Minimum or 1 year experience in a Cardiac OR and/or Level 1 Trauma Center.

Education:

• Associate or other advanced degree in a healthcare related field

Licensure/Certification:

• ASATT certification as an Anesthesia Technologist
• National or Arizona state certification as a Paramedic

Exposure Category I: Expected duties have routine potential for exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.

· Able to demonstrate manual dexterity and mechanical ability.

· Must be able to stand or walk continuously, for the duration of the entire shift.

· Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and be able to assist with patient transfers using designated resources.
