RN-Surgical First Assist

Position Summary
Prepares surgical suite with appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment according to procedure and surgeon preference. Provides aid in draping, surgical exposure, hemostasis, closure of wounds and any other intraoperative technical functions that aid the surgeon to perform a safe surgery.
Responsibilities
Performs pre-op and post-op duties to better facilitate proper patient care
Evaluates, plans, implements, and documents surgical nursing care for perioperative patients. Performs surgical procedures under supervision of a surgeon
Functions in a scrub or circulating nurse role as well
Applies nursing knowledge as the basis for effective problem solving and decision making when providing perioperative patient care
Minimizes the length of the operative or invasive procedure and maximizes surgeon's efficiency of movement within the surgical wound
Conducts a systematic and ongoing evaluation measuring the effectiveness of RNFA interventions in relation to achieving identified outcomes
Serves as educator, mentor, consultant, and resource to colleagues and other health care professional in relation to RNFA activities
In addition to the above, the RNFA will follow AORN's "The RNFA Standards of Practice."
Performs other related duties as assigned
Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned
Requirements and Minimum Qualifications
Associate's degree in Nursing and licensed in the State of Idaho as a Registered Nurse required
Licensed RN with a minimum 3 years' patient-facing RN experience at time of hire, ADN or diploma required; BSN or higher preferred
All non-BSN RN's with less than 3 years' patient-facing RN experience at time of hire are required to be enrolled in a baccalaureate (or higher) degree program in nursing within 1 year of employment, with completion within 3 years of hire
Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant preferred
Operating room experience required
Must be certified to perform CPR
BLS Required. Current AHA Healthcare provider, American Red Cross, AHA Health Saver or KH BLS during General Orientation.
ACLS Required
Competent in vein harvesting (CVOR RNFA only)
Working Conditions
Must be able to lift and move up to 35lbs
Must be able to maintain a standing and/or sitting position
Typical equipment used in a clinical job
Must be able to stoop, crouch, or bend
Must be able to push, pull, or transport heavy equipment
Must be able to assist in patient transfer
