What are the responsibilities and job description for the Temporary Lineworkers position at Lake Region Electric Cooperative?
Lake Region Electric Cooperative (LREC) is a member-owned electric utility serving more than 30,000 member-consumers in the counties of Otter Tail, Wilkin, Grant, Douglas, Clay and Becker (service territory). LREC has opportunities for recent graduates to gain experience in the industry as a temporary lineworker. Responsibilities include assisting the Lineworkers and Equipment Operators in the construction, operation and maintenance of distribution lines and substations. This year, five positions are available beginning mid-May through November: four based out of Pelican Rapids, MN and one based out of Ottertail, MN.
Become familiar with the general responsibilities and required knowledge inherent in a lineworker position, working in accordance with prescribed operating procedures, safety regulations and Lake Region Safety Rules.
- Assist in pulling cable and rolling out wire.
- Load and unload poles, cables and other materials in the warehouse area, pole yard and onto vehicles and equipment.
- Assist in setting overhead poles by digging and filling holes. Use hydraulic tamping machine to pack dirt around poles.
- Assist in digging holes for transformers and digging trenches for underground cable. Fill holes and trenches.
- Assist in driving ground rods into the ground.
- Assist in underground clean up at job sites including raking and seeding disturbed area.
Qualifications for the position include:
- Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and a diploma or degree from a recognized electrical lineworker program through a technical college.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Class A Commercial Drivers License.
- Ability to understand and apply electric terminology, specifications, and codes.
- Ability to communicate in a professional, helpful, and courteous manner.
- Intermediate computer proficiency, with ability to use Microsoft Office products.
- Physical Demands & Working Conditions: Ability to work outdoors with great physical exertion, often in poor weather conditions. Frequently lift materials and equipment up to 50 lbs. Occasionally lift items weighing up to 100 lbs. Shovel dirt, work around noisy equipment.
- Schedule: Capacity to work standard work hours, Monday – Friday 7:30AM – 4:00PM, and overtime as needed. Assistance will be expected during major outages.
- Must be able to successfully complete a pre-employment screening which may include a physical examination, drug screening, background check, reference check, and motor vehicle record check as applicable to the position.
