Position/Title: Interim Grade 2 Homeroom & Grade 1/Grade 2 Writing Teacher
Appointment: January 2025
Reports To: Director of Early Childhood - Grade 5

Position Summary
As a lead writing teacher, this position entails the design, detailed planning, and instruction of child-centered, age-appropriate curricula in language arts. This position will support the full second grade with grade-level experiences and activities. Teachers work cooperatively with specialist teachers in library, world languages, art, science, music, physical education, and dance.
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Create a classroom environment that promotes belonging, using Responsive Classroom as a guide
- Preparation and implementation of daily lessons:
- Writing, using The Writing Revolution framework, opportunities to write in a variety of genres, working on revising, editing, and publishing
- Design and implementation of appropriate, authentic assessments for First Grade and Second Grade students
- Comprehensive, ongoing documentation of student progress
- Support evaluation of all relevant class work, including preparation of regular, detailed rubrics and formal narrative reports on student progress and informal communication with family to keep them informed about student progress - both successes and challenges
- Assist with assessment and support of students
- Integrate technology into classroom instruction when appropriate and provide opportunities for students to develop technology and coding skills
- Collaborate on visits to Butler and other Field Trips
- Regular communication with families - SeeSaw, weekly newsletters, check-in emails/calls, reports, and conferences
- Effective and timely communication in person, through email, and voice mail with varied school constituencies
- Participation in faculty and staff meetings
- Support of divisional and school-wide initiatives
- Supervision and/or participation in non-academic activities, i.e. lunch, recess, and afternoon dismissal
- Admissions work - hosting visitors and doing write-ups; reviewing applications (on rotation); Open House
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
The successful candidate ideally holds a graduate degree and 3 or more years of teaching experience at the Primary level. They must possess a positive attitude, excellent written and verbal skills, strong organizational skills, and proven success within a work setting that requires collaboration, cooperation, and collegiality. Candidates should feel comfortable with an outdoor learning environment and enjoy spending time in nature with students. The candidate must possess or acquire and maintain a State of Ohio-issued teaching certificate or non-tax certificate.
