Founder Maxwell Lessing built the Lessings brand with his vision of providing services to coffee shops in lower Manhattan. By 1917, the company grew into a downtown operation comprised of a bakeshop, commissary and additional service outlets located near Manhattans Financial District. Lessing's was serving an integral part of the New York's workforce by the late 1920s from as many as 20 locations including the famous Woolworth Building on Wall Street.
