What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Technician, Grounds - Part-Time position at Lewis and Clark Community College?
Scope of Position
This position performs the variety of tasks necessary to maintain athletic fields and other turf areas of the campus.
Key Measurable Expectations (KMEs)
- Maintain the appearance and functionality of three types of athletic fields (softball, baseball, and soccer), tennis courts, dugouts, and other turf areas of the campus.
- Ensure that the underlying soil of athletic fields with natural turf have the required composition to allow proper drainage and to support the grasses used on the fields.
- Apply chemical and other techniques as needed to prevent/remove weeds, pests and rodents.
- Mow, water, fertilize, and aerate athletic fields.
- Mark out boundaries and lines of athletic fields.
- Assist with campus irrigation needs and schedules.
- Maintain Preventative Maintenance (PM) schedules and documentation of completion.
- Maintain equipment to function at optimal standards to meet or exceed original efficiency, performance, and lifespan.
- Assume responsibility for proper storage, maintenance, and usage of all assigned and issued college equipment, tools, and vehicles.
- Ensure safety of all building occupants and campus visitors including debris, snow, and/or ice removal as needed.
- Ensure ordered materials are received, in good condition, correct, and in the ordered amounts.
- Assist Team in all general maintenance duties as signed by a supervisor, the Facility Manager, and or the Director of Campus Operations.
- Comply with all OSHA safety rules and regulations for self, other Team members, and any others on campus.
- Attend and complete all mechanical, industrial, building, safety, IL DOL, and other training as directed by supervisors, Facility Manager, or Director of campus operation.
Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
- High school Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of two years of experience with landscaping or currently in a trades program
- Working knowledge of operation and maintenance of small machinery and other equipment, i.e. movers, chainsaws, trimmers, and lawn equipment.
- Ability to exercise judgement, decisiveness, and creativity required in situations involving the repair and maintenance of equipment and machinery.
- Valid Drivers’ License and insurance.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft word, email applications, and basic computer skills.
- Ability to communicate both orally and written with fellow Team members, coworkers, faculty, students, staff, contractors, businesses, vendors, and the general public in a courteous and professional manner.
- Demonstrate ability in problem solving.
- To work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work any and all assigned shifts, including evenings and weekends as needed.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to work and travel independently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of operation and maintenance of tractor & attachments, front-end loader, and/or skid-steer.
- Experience with turf management of athletic fields.
Team Members can expect to be paid an hourly rate of $18.34.
