About Lydia House
Lydia House (LH), LLC from Lili’uokalani Trust, is directly overseen by the LT Board of Trustees, acting as Board of Directors. LH serves youth and young adults (YYA) 16 to 26 y/o experiencing high risk factors and involvement in systems of care. The Center supports YYAs low barrier access to basic needs services with a youth-centered approach. LH aims to meet basic needs stabilization and support YYAs who choose to move towards thriving. This center strongly roots its work in Hawaiian values and healing centered approach, with heightened focus elevating the strengths and innate values of all YYAs, regardless of past experiences and present environment. The Center operates through its engagement center to meet all basic needs. LH also provides an opportunity of a Thriving Supportive Program (TSP), an intensive case management project. TSP supports re-entry into education and workforce, including opportunity for financial and housing support. LH maintains 40 beds in 18 dorms, to provide on campus stability to qualified YA (18 and up) enrolled in TSP and actively engaged to reach youth’s thriving goal plan.
Job Purpose
The Lead, Huliau Program supports and navigates youth and young adults services and programs in the Huliau and Huliau Housing Program at Lydia House. The role ensures planning and execution of the services and activities, partnerships and collaborations supporting the kamali‘i for the Huliau Program at LH. This position will support outreach, access to services, and a safe place to and for youth and young adults. The Lead will oversee and provide a caring adult presence, navigation, and coaching for the youth in the Huliau program. The Lead is responsible for researching and incorporating culturally-centered interventions according to the Pua Lili‘u framework and matching it to the needs of the youth and young adults. This role utilizes knowledge of youth best practices, community outreach and collaboration, and constant opportunities to acquire and utilize feedback from kamaliʻi and to constantly enhance and improve services to meet youth needs. In addition, guides and supports the performance and development Case Manager and Residential Advisors.
Essential Responsibilities
Huliau Program (including Huliau Housing)
Promotes a safe physical and emotional environment for participants and staff, with access for all youth and young adults (YYA) qualified to enroll in the Huliau program and/or Huliau housing program.
Ensures the Huliau Program is adequately staffed at all times. Manages the schedule for all Residential Advisors and Case Manager, and is available after hours to support the Residential staff as needed. Recruits and onboards new teammates ensuring efficient transition into the residential schedule.
Supports and develops services and activities which meet kamaliʻi basic needs and stabilize their lives, in a youth-centered approach.
Collaborates with and supports learning for LH teammates, and external partners, to support youth best practices and approaches tailored to the needs of kamaliʻi.
Promotes an environment where kamali‘i may feel safe to self-direct their activities, readiness and degree of support for stability, sense of belonging, and future orientation.
Performs community outreach, analyzes environment surrounding community, and gathers feedback from partners, kamaliʻi, and other community members to incorporate into the design of services provided.
Supports team in collecting and reporting on participant data and collaborates with other teams (ie. Social Services, Research and Evaluation) to further utilize this information in the understanding of demographics needs and services to inform impactful, transformative models.
Works with Office Manager and facilities technician to ensure facilities are always in appropriate livable conditions. Debriefs with team on a daily basis and provides case consultation with Case manager on a weekly basis. Stays aware and on top of any potential risks, or situations that may arise. Oversees safety protocols, ensuring they’re implemented when needed (e.g. phone tree, guidelines and procedures, etc.).
Reports and works collaborative with the LH Executive Director to support all activities within the Huliau Program.
Huliau Housing Program
Provides guidance in the development of daily and monthly activities calendars. Monitors event progression and manages participation surveys to evaluate community response, assess needs, and identify prospective programs for Lydia House residential program participants.
Works in collaboration with the Lead, Engagement Center and Case Managers to assess for and offer essential life skills for healthy residential living (e.g. grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, organization, time management, personal hygiene and laundry, money management, self-care practices, home care, etc.) as a way to build resilience, self-control, self-awareness and other essential values to become a thriving adult. Works to thread program lessons into service plans and daily living.
Works in collaboration with Lydia House team to support Kamaliʻi utilizing technology, resources, and tools that aid in their daily schedules, work assignments, access to program materials, residential living announcements/communication, etc.
Supports the team in collecting and reporting participant data continuously, maintaining individual periodical assessment of progress and notes in management system.
Carries a lighter assigned case load of YYA; provides supervision to Case Manager and Residential Advisors by regularly meeting, seeking to promote success for kamali‘i in reaching self-determined goals.
Other duties:
Contributes to the Trust’s success by accepting new assignments, helping team members, learning new skills, and striving to improves team and organization results.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in education, human/social services, or other relevant field. Or have at least 7 years of relevant experience.
At least 2 years experience in planning, implementing, directing youth programs. Knowledge of best youth practices (positive youth development and others) and the ability to selfcare and work with the most vulnerable population.
