Duties include assisting the Marine Patrol Deputy in enforcement of boating laws and ordinances, investigation of boating accidents, water based search, rescue and recovery operations, identification and/or removal of navigational hazards, and addressing vessel operation. This position is a seasonal, temporary position to fill a contract with the Oregon State Marine Board. The person hired to this position MUST be available to work mid-May through mid-September 2025. After orientation, the standard work shift will be 4 -10 hour shifts, either Thursday through Sunday or Friday through Monday from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm, however, this position OFTEN requires additional hours, based on the call load, with little or no notice. The days and hours may vary at times. Holidays will be worked depending on assigned days off (no Holiday differential pay is offered).
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
MANDATORY QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: 18 years of age at time of hire.Applicant must be a U.S. CitizenApplicant must pass criminal background investigation and psychological evaluation.Must possess valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.Must possess or earn an Oregon Boating Safety Card. (Sheriff's Office can proctor the exam to hired employee.)Must possess or earn First Aid/CPR with AED certification. (Sheriff's Office can certify hired employee.)Must be able to pass a swimming test consisting of a 100 meter swim, treading water for 5 minutes, float for 5 minutes, and hold breath underwater for 30 seconds, consecutively. This will be administered by the Sheriff's Office as part of the hiring process.Must be able to work on unstable platforms such as docks and moving boats in a variety of environmental conditions such as adverse weather.Must have good verbal communication skills and the ability to interact with individuals in a variety of situations.The ability to drive a vehicle with a boat in tow and be able to back up a trailer is highly desirable.
