Job Description:
Longwood University invites qualified applicants for the position of Financial Services Specialist, SGA and Student Engagement (00110). The purpose of this position is to oversee the financial functions of the Student Government Association (SGA) and the Student Engagement Department. The role serves as a point of financial resource and leadership for the SGA Office including creating and leading training opportunities and resources. The selected candidate will supervise all financial accounts that are the responsibility of the SGA and process all fiscal paperwork associated with clubs and organizations, work closely with the SGA President, SGA Treasurer, and the SGA Student Finance Committee. The position also provides similar budget management for the Student Engagement unit. The position is supervised by the Associate VP for Student Engagement and Initiatives in close collaboration with the SGA President and Treasurer. This staff member maintains a close connection with the Student Engagement staff, including attending regular meetings.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
· Interact daily with students, faculty, and staff as a point of financial resource across campus.
· Responsible for fiscal operations for all SGA expenditures and overseeing accounting and reconciliation practices for SGA and student organization budgets.
· Serve as Financial Advisor to the SGA and Student Finance Committee.
· Ensure that student organizations comply with university and state financial regulations, policies, and procedures.
· Provide analysis of SGA expenditures and budgets.
· Manage the daily operations of the SGA Office.
· Manage support for the processing of agency fund request paperwork and budget balance information to student organizations and the SFC.
· Manage and reconcile Student Engagement budgets.
· Financial Training; create and lead in-person and online training sessions for SGA and student organization leaders regarding financial processes.
· Process all check requests from SGA funds.
Requirements:
· High school graduate; Bachelor's degree with accounting background preferred.
· Demonstrated working knowledge of budget management and general office practices and procedures including knowledge of and experience with the Commonwealth of Virginia financial practices and procedures.
· Experience with monitoring and reconciling financial transactions.
· Ability to convey information effectively through superb verbal and written communication skills.
· Attention to detail and accuracy with strong organizational skills.
· Ability to analyze and find solutions, alternatives, and/or different approaches to a problem through the use of logic and reasoning.
· Planning, coordinating, and leading teaching and training for club and organization training sessions on SGA financial budgeting and procedures.
· Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate other events throughout the year.
· Ability to work independently and multi-task while serving as a resource for a number of students and student organizations.
· Computer proficiency in various software applications including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
· A working knowledge of web-based applications, including website management.
· Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a wide range of students.
· The ability to quickly adjust to a variety of social and professional situations and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
· Working knowledge of eVA (Commonwealth of Virginia procurement system), Commonwealth of Virginia state policies and procedures, purchasing card, and other procedures preferred.
· Extensive experience providing office management, teaching/training, research, administrative and/or programmatic support in a fast-paced office setting.
· Experience with fiscal support administration (e.g. budgeting, purchasing, etc.).
· Work experience in higher education preferred.
