Compensation: $21.00-$26.39 per hour, plus $1.75 per hour Shift Differential Premium for hours worked between 6pm-6am
Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 9:00am-6:00pm; Thursday 2:00pm-10:00pm
Status: 100% Full-Time, Non-Exempt, Union
Probation: 90 days

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Los Angeles LGBT Center’s Department of Health Services is one of the nation’s largest and most experienced providers of LGBTQ-specialized primary care and related services, Our mission to help LGBTQ people lead healthier, happier lives is supported by our comprehensive array of client-centered services including primary care, mental health, psychiatry, sexual health, pharmacy, case management, nutrition, clinical research, housing services and a food pantry. The Center is one of a handful of Federally Qualified Health Centers in the nation specializing in serving LGBTQ people.
JOB SUMMARY: Under direct supervision, the Outreach Specialist will coordinate all aspects of outreach and special events focusing on mental health access and assist in the development of appropriate prevention strategies for programs in Substance Use and Recovery Services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Plan and execute outreach efforts throughout the greater Los Angeles/Southern California area.
• Conduct outreach and interface with clients via social networking sites within appropriate safety parameters.
• Assist in the development of outreach standards and best practices for programs in Substance Use and Recovery Services.
• Assist with survey data analysis and incorporate data analysis in program materials as appropriate.
• Assist in the development, production, and revision of all programming, educational, and outreach materials.
• Assist with volunteer trainings/orientations.
• Provide linked referrals to Substance Use and Recovery clients for appropriate services.
• Keep accurate and up-to-date files for trained volunteers.
• Assist in the marketing of all program and outreach efforts.
• Prepare monthly and quarterly reports as required by funder and program supervisors as needed.
• Assist in the recruitment of volunteers.
• Provide outreach intervention to group participants and clients as assigned.
• Provide triage to participants and clients.
• Participate in all staff meetings.
• Assist program staff with administrative and clerical duties/responsibilities.
• Other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Knowledge of/experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people.
• A passion for the Center’s work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people.
• Minimum 1 year experience with outreach and/or special events.
• Understanding of and ability to implement curriculum and material development.
• Experience with substance use recovery.
• Ability to follow a work plan.
• Strong customer service background with emphasis on team participation.
• Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and database operations.
• Demonstrated ability to create visually appealing outreach materials and public presence of the program.
• Demonstrated ability to provide culturally relevant services to people living with substance use issues in communities of color.
• Bilingual skills a plus (English/Spanish fluency preferred).
• Understanding of general mental health factors impacting victims of crime.
• Access to reliable transportation and the ability to be insured.
• Availability to work some evenings and weekends.
• Ability to build rapport with the following target populations: people of color, gay, lesbian, and bisexual men and women, members of the transgender community, people of varying ages, and community partners.
• Some flexibility with scheduling and the ability to work some evenings and weekends.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.
