Position Title: Assistant Director of Employer Relations

Department: Center for Career Development

Salary: $79, 000 - $85, 000

Position Summary:

  • The Assistant Director of Employer Relations reports to the Director and is responsible for high-level employer development and alumni programs. This primarily includes executing the campus-wide career fairs and managing and facilitating the Mentor Program.
  • The Assistant Director of Employer Relations is a highly organized individual who embraces the opportunity to develop and build strong relationships with hiring managers, alumni mentors, and other employer sponsors and recruitment partners that provide mutual value through mentorship and talent recruitment pathways. The Assistant Director of Employer Relations helps advance the mission, vision, and strategic priorities of the University as it relates to employer relations.

Mentor Program, Career Fair and Sponsor/Employer Relations:

  • Develop, foster, and maintain strong working relationships with employers to support student career development. Secure companies for attendance at campus-wide Career Fairs. Responsible for all administrative aspects of the event such as, but not limited to: payment collection, event logistics, catering and staffing. Publicize events to all major constituencies on campus. Create, disseminate and assess employer and student evaluations. Conduct program assessment and utilize data to improve the program.
  • Manage all areas of Mentor Program including planning and implementing virtual networking events, workshops, training sessions, ‘Meet-and-Greet’ events, and the Mentor “Year in Review” closing event. Develop and implement a campus-wide marketing recruitment plan to recruit mentees, and cultivate relationships with the Office of Alumni Relations, Development team, and faculty members to recruit mentors. Design and maintain program records, forms, and marketing materials. Assign mentors to students. Keep in contact with mentors and students throughout the academic year, and maintain a positive working relationship between CCD and organizations, alumni, faculty, administrators and students. Manage and meet with program Advisory Board. Conduct program assessment through mid-program and post-program surveys and utilize data to improve the program.
  • Identifies potential corporate and other government, non-profit partners to target for development of Sponsor/Employer Relations. Conducts background research on employer profile, needs and strategic fit of potential partners with the mission of the Center for Career Development. Works with departmental staff and faculty to identify and profile potential partners to target. Writes annual progress reports to share with departmental staff, senior leadership, and other stakeholders.

Recruitment Responsibilities Overview:

  • Maintain all full-time, internship and part-time job listings using the office’s job/internships database, Handshake and advise users on how to utilize Handshake, troubleshoot glitches and contact support services as issues arise.
  • Speak with employers and help get them set up with accounts and events.
  • Follow up with employers to get them to participate in the office’s On-Campus Recruiting program and Career Fairs.
  • Conduct thorough outreach to students to fill interview slots.
  • Publicize upcoming on-campus interviews to deans and faculty.
  • Organize day-of logistics for employers such as meals, parking and room reservations.
  • Follow up with employers and students to get feedback.
  • Keep records of recruitment activity for use in assessment.
  • Collaborate with CCD staff on projects as assigned.

Management Responsibilities:

  • Guides work of graduate assistants or student workers. Organizes, sets priorities, schedules and reviews work but is generally not responsible for final decisions in hiring, performance management or compensation.


Skills and Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience in corporate recruiting/business development, human resources and/or event planning required, preferably in higher education. Proven success in developing and maintaining internal and external relationships, able to interact with high-level executives.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Must be collaborative, self-directed, outcome-oriented, and able and willing to work under pressure.
  • Excellent communication, marketing, relationship building, and project management skills.
  • Exceptional business acumen, independent decision-making abilities, a highly professional demeanor, and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to present effectively to senior corporate executives.
  • Must have strong customer service focus for internal and external constituents, oral presentation skills, and have been successful in working both independently and in cross-functional teams.
  • Experience planning and executing events.
  • Outstanding organizational and event management skills.
  • Familiarity with career development theories and practices.
  • Technical Skills:
    • MS Office Suite: Advanced in MS Word and PowerPoint and proficient in Excel.
    • Ability to master Internet-based recruiting programs, customer relationship management (CRM) software platforms, and learn new technologies.
