What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Controller position at Matrix Finance and Accounting?
Our client has a beautiful office in Edmonds, WA and is looking to hire an Assistant Controller! This employer requires candidates to live locally (not a remote position). This would be a great position for a Senior Accountant with some supervisory experience looking to take a step up in their career. Additionally, any Accounting Managers or Assistant Controllers looking to make a lateral move in their career are encouraged to apply! This role offers excellent work/life balance and requires working in-office four days per week (one day per week WFH). The target salary range is $95k to $115k, plus discretionary bonus.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department including:
- Month and year end close process
- General ledger maintenance and journal entries
- Oversee expense variance analysis and Balance Sheet reconciliation.
- Review the entries and progress on month end and year end processes of the accounting team.
- Review, investigate and resolve reconciling items in a timely fashion.
- Fixed asset activity
- Monitor and analyze accounting data and produce financial reports or statements .
- Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies, and principles
- Provide recommendations to improve systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions
- Excellent analytical skills with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and handle high pressure situations while maintaining a high level of quality and flexibility
- Assign projects and direct staff to ensure compliance and accuracy
- Establish and maintain fiscal files and records to document transactions
- Provide support with the external CPA firm for the yearend review.
- Assist and supply information to external CPA firm for the preparation of Federal and State tax returns, estimated tax payments and sales tax compliance
- Provide training to new and existing staff as needed.
- Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- BS degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 5 years of accounting experience with prior managerial responsibilities
- Ability to direct and manage others (some supervisory experience required as this role manages a team of four)
- Advanced computer skills with MS Office, GL packages and ERP systems
- Ability to manipulate large amounts of data
- Proven knowledge of accounting principles, practices, standards, laws, and regulations
- High attention to detail and accuracy
