The major function of this position is:

The Assistant Store Manager will support the Store Manager in leading the store team to deliver exceptional customer service while ensuring smooth day-to-day operations. This role is focused on creating meaningful connections with customers and helping to build lasting relationships between guests and the Maui Jim brand.

The Assistant Store Manager will be responsible for assisting in store operations, including opening and closing procedures, inventory management, POS system management, and maintaining store appearance. The Assistant Store Manager will also foster a collaborative team environment and ensure a high standard of service is consistently delivered.

Work Schedule Requirements:

  • Retail store hours vary, typically from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Sunday through Saturday, with flexibility required to meet the needs of the business.
  • Candidates must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as necessary to support store operations and ensure team coverage.
  • Availability to fill scheduling gaps as needed to ensure seamless business operations and staffing coverage.

The primary responsibilities and duties of this position are:

As a key member of the store leadership team, you will assist the Store Manager in driving sales and achieving business results through delivering a premium customer experience, fostering strong employee relations, and maintaining operational procedures. You will ensure that all store activities align with the Maui Jim culture and retail operating expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

Operations, Sales, and Customer Service:
  • Collaborate with the Manager to manage the store’s financial plan, including revenue, expenses, and profitability.
  • Assist the Manager in recruiting, interviewing, and training new team members, ensuring the store is staffed with qualified individuals who embody the brand’s values.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by demonstrating strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Manage and execute store product flow, restocking, inventory needs, and daily store maintenance.
  • Implement and maintain visual merchandising standards and execute seasonal floor sets to reflect the store’s brand image and aesthetic.
  • Become a product expert and stay informed on customer needs, guiding customers toward products that meet those needs.
  • Share product knowledge with the team and provide coaching on product features and sales techniques to foster team productivity.
  • Manage POS system operations, including reconciling, processing returns, exchanges, gift cards, and discounts accurately.
  • Motivate and inspire the team by leading with enthusiasm and a positive, goal-oriented attitude.
  • Assist the Manager in managing the recruitment, hiring, training, and career development of staff in collaboration with Corporate HR.
  • Support the District Manager in scheduling, including coordinating time off, breaks, and ensuring proper coverage for daily operations.
  • Address employee concerns, conflicts, and resolution in a professional and constructive manner.
  • Conduct regular performance check-ins and provide feedback to staff and Manager.
  • Lead store meetings and assist with staff training and development initiatives.
  • Oversee merchandising, re-merchandising, and ensuring products are properly displayed in alignment with store standards.
  • Manage inventory levels by restocking and receiving new products as necessary.
  • Identify inventory gaps and place orders to ensure stock levels meet customer demand.
  • Assist with store events and promotional activities.
  • Collaborate with the Manager to execute store procedures and expectations.
  • Support marketing efforts by seeking local collaborations with relevant brands, artists, and community figures to promote the store.
  • Act as an ambassador for the brand, engaging with the local community to build brand awareness.
  • Lead the retail team in achieving exceptional customer service and fostering customer loyalty, encouraging positive word-of-mouth and reviews.
  • Continuously improve sales, service, and operational processes to elevate the customer experience and contribute to the overall growth of the brand.
  • Foster a knowledgeable and hospitable store environment that reflects the brand’s values and customer commitment.
  • Perform other work-related tasks as requested or required.
Physical Requirements:
  • Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed to support business demands.
  • Ability to fill scheduling gaps and provide coverage as required to meet operational needs.
  • Strong self-motivation and leadership skills, with a proven ability to manage and guide teams effectively.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform tasks that may involve using ladders and stairs.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Reliable transportation to travel between assigned locations as required.
  • Proficiency with POS systems, data entry, and the ability to type at a minimum of 20-30 words per minute.
  • Strong time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor, acting as a positive representative of the company to both customers and team members.

Qualifications:
  • Ability to effectively lead, motivate, and develop a team.
  • Outstanding customer service skills with the ability to resolve issues efficiently.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Dependable, responsible, and demonstrates high integrity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and business skills to manage store operations.
  • Proficiency with POS systems and software, with the ability to perform data entry efficiently.
  • The ability to evaluate and repair eyewear products is a plus.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in a retail or similar client-facing environment.
  • At least 2 years of hands-on retail experience.
  • High School Diploma required; 2 years of college education preferred.
  • In lieu of formal education, a minimum of 3 years of relevant supervisory experience is preferred.
