Position: Construction Estimator
Job Summary:
The Construction Estimator plays a crucial role in our construction projects by providing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates. The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing project plans, conducting quantity takeoffs, coordinating with vendors and subcontractors, and preparing competitive bids. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Cost Estimation: Analyze project plans, specifications, and related documents to prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor services.
Quantity Takeoffs: Conduct thorough quantity takeoffs from construction drawings to determine the required quantities of materials and resources.
Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination: Collaborate with vendors and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing and bids for materials and services required for construction projects.
Cost Database Management: Maintain and update a centralized cost database to ensure the accuracy and consistency of pricing information for future reference.
Value Engineering: Work with the project team to propose cost-saving alternatives and value engineering options without compromising on quality.
Bid Preparation: Prepare comprehensive bid proposals that adhere to project specifications and deadlines, ensuring all required documentation is included.
Cost Analysis: Conduct post-project cost analysis to evaluate the accuracy of initial estimates and identify areas for improvement.
Market Research: Stay informed about industry trends, construction materials, and labor costs to enhance the accuracy of estimates and maintain competitiveness.
Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and other team members to ensure effective communication and alignment of project requirements.
Project Support: Assist in project planning and strategy discussions by providing cost-related insights and recommendations.
Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline estimating processes and contribute to the enhancement of company estimation practices.
Qualifications and Skills:
Proven experience as a Construction Estimator or similar role in the construction industry.
Proficiency in interpreting architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, submittals, and project documents.
Strong analytical and mathematical skills with a keen eye for detail.
Excellent organizational and time management abilities to meet project deadlines.
Knowledge of construction materials, methods, and industry best practices.
Familiarity with construction estimating software and tools.
Effective communication and negotiation skills for vendor and subcontractor coordination.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.
A degree in Construction Management or a related field is preferred.
