- The Construction Manager directs all site supervision and is directly responsible for resource planning and site construction resources including; labor, tools, equipment, site services, housing and transportation to ensure that the work is completed to standards & specifications and within the project budgets. The role directly reports to Operations Management and routinely interacts with production craft, subcontractors and clients/customers.
- Typical Remit: Responsible for all site activities for large projects or a regional project portfolio having 250,000 to 1 million construction man-hours or a total installed cost between USD 50MM and USD 400MM
- Accountable for the functional direction, coordination, and performance of all on-site construction operations and support departments including field management, quality, safety, material management, procurement, construction engineering, human resources, business services, industrial relations, and facility turnover
- Provide constructability input during design
- Understand contract requirements
- Develop a construction organizational plan commensurate with the requirements of the Project
- Visit sites for pending projects and evaluates site conditions and extraordinary requirements
- Ensure each direct report has a full understanding of the Project Execution Plan and other information pertinent to construction execution, and lead team to deliver a successful project
- Accountable for the functional direction, coordination, and performance of all on-site construction operations and support departments including field management, quality, safety, material management, procurement, construction engineering, human resources, business services, industrial relations, and facility turnover
- Coordinate and interface with others as required to execute the construction plan and assure that labor, equipment and materials are available to support the construction effort
- Assure that construction work is performed within the budget and schedule constraints of the project controls change/scope creep, ensuring that all scope changes are quickly and properly documented, and that change orders are approved prior to the performance of work
- Monitor and controls cost, schedule, progress, and productivity including analyzing deviations and taking action to correct negative trends
- Advise management of developments that could affect project profit, schedule, costs, or client relations
- Manage scope of work by identifying change conditions or work outside of scope
- Maintain a chronological record of the project history by having the minutes of meetings and telephone conversations documented. Confirm in writing all significant instructions given to site supervision or received from the Client/Customer
- Promote an atmosphere of open and honest communication between the company and Owner, with the goal of excellence in customer relationships.
- Represent the company in its role as a member of the total project team (owner, other contractors and the general community)
- Delegate responsibilities and authority to subordinates for the planning and execution of the work
- Ensures subordinate personnel receive progressive training to enable them to assume additional responsibilities
- Ensure performance evaluations are conducted on assigned personnel
- Client Relations:o Ensure Client and Company meet contractual requirementso Ensure scope changes are managed and amendments to cost and schedule are executed promptlyo Maintain excellence in relationships between the Client/Customer and the company
- 20 years in the construction field with 10 years management level experience required.
- Bachelor's in Construction Management or Engineering or equivalent general construction experience
- Knowledge of relent industry codes and standards (OSHA, API, ASME, AWWA, NCCCR, etc. - certifications preferred)
- Knowledge of relevant welding codes, standards, processes, and equipment (certifications preferred)
- Associated construction certifications preferred (Health, Safety & Environmental practices, inspection and operation of construction equipment, hoisting & lifting equipment, rigging, etc.)
